Cool I Saw Dick York in an old movie today!

I was watching a movie called My Sister Eileen on Turner Classic Movies and I spotted a familiar face. It was Dick York. He was playing an out of work fellow training to become a football player. So he was wearing sweat pants and a sweat shirt in almost every scene he was in. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out who it was since I'm used to seeing him in suits and ties on Bewitched!! This movie was made in 1955. Betty Garrett (All in the Family, Laverne and Shirley) was also in the cast.

Thumbs up

I've seen that movie, too - it's great. Janet Leigh and Jack Lemmon are also in the cast. My library has it - I'll have to check it out again one of these days.

Cool

It was a very enjoyable movie. By the way Dick York was billed as "Richard York" for this movie.

I think that was the only time he was billed under his full name, but I could be wrong.

I looked up Dick York's credits on IMDB.com. According to them he was billed as "Richard York" twice. One was "My Sister Eileen" the other was a 1950 film called "Last Date".

That's cool! I love spotting familiar faces in movies without realizing they were in it in the first place! I love Jack Lemmon, so I'll see if I can find the movies mentioned!

In some of those educational films from the early 50's you will see Dick York. Nick at Nite used to show those.

Another flick starring Jack Lemmon and a Bewitched cast member (in this case, Paul Lynde) was 1963's Under the Yum Yum Tree.

Here's the DVD cover of My Sister Eileen. DY is in the bottom photo, on the right.

It always surprises me that Betty Garrett didn't become a bigger star. She was a fine actress, she sang well, and was a great dancer. A true triple threat. I guess for us sitcom lovers it's a good thing she didn't becoma a major movie star. She probably would never have been on "All in the Family" or "Laverne and Shirley" if she had!

That's true - and I can't imagine anyone else in the roles of Irene Lorenzo or Edna Babish!!
