I think "Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School" is at the top of my list, just b/c I've been waiting SO long to see it again! I also can't wait to see "Lou Dates Mary," from the last season, and of course, "Chuckles." There are others, I'm sure, but those are the ones that come to mind.

That's a good list, Markway.
Even the lesser-known episodes always have lots of laughs, though.

Tonight I'm going to watch "Once I Had A Secret Love", when Mary tells Lou's secret about Sue Ann and he says he and Mary are no longer friends.
I remember being a bit upset when watching it the first time as a youngster because I just couldn't imagine Mary and Lou not being on good terms.

It should be lots of fun watching it now as an adult.

"Once I Had a Secret Love" is one of my favorite episodes. Feel free to post your thoughts on it once you see it as an adult, PGood.

oh! I thought of another, Mary Goes to Jail! (Sue Ann throws a party for Mary complete with tin cups) before she goes!

Kristen, "Once I Had A Secret Love" was just as awesome as I remembered it!

First of all, there were two lines I'm sure I laughed at when I was a teenager during the original run but I could appreciate them even more as an adult.

Lou: "Sue Ann, could you do me a favor?"
Sue Ann: "Well, maybe on my lunch break!"

and

Mary: "Guess who Sue Ann Nivens spent the night with?"
Murray: "Come on Mary, I don't have all day!"

But I really remember that episode for actually being worried that Lou and Mary possibly weren't going to be friends anymore. And upon this recent viewing, I'm quite sure that the strength of the scene was because of Mary Tyler Moore's performance.

She was SO real! There is the exact moment when Mary realizes that Lou is serious and that they might not be friends anymore and I could feel it in the pit of my stomach! She knew she'd screwed up and knew she might not get a chance to fix it.
And yet during the real drama, there was also the comedy...Mary crying into the sock, her lurching, uncontrollable sobs (great physical comedy), and Ted scaring her instead of calming her down.

When Mary finally agreed to make it up to Lou by telling her "secret" and turned it into a joke, in Mary style, I remember being SO relieved that they'd put it behind them - and all these many years later I had those exact same feelings!

Ed Asner was fantastic in that ep - loved his little turn and the expression on his face when Mary first figured out it was Sue Ann! - but I have to really hand it to MTM. Who else could have pulled off that mix of drama and comedy? (There were other eps with scenes similar to that one, too, like when she almost lost her job for the humorous obit, and when she had to go to jail.)

Once in a great while I see somebody on the boards say MTM wasn't the star of TMTMS; usually they say that's because she let the others shine so much. I'm sorry; that's ridiculous. She was the star, and the most brilliant one I've ever seen!

Couldn't agree more with everything you said! It's an awesome ep. The scene with Mary crying into a sock still cracks me up, just picturing it. And Ted's attempt to calm her down is priceless. "Oh, wait, that's for hiccups!" LOL I just think it's one of those episodes where everybody was on their game and had something really good to do. If I were ever going to pick my top 10 episodes (I've long since given up trying to do that, BTW), this would definitely be up there. Both Ed and Mary do a really good job.

there was even more good stuff from that ep:

at the start, ted warns everybody that lou is in a bad mood, and when he walks into the newsroom, mary gives a perky "hi mr. grant!" and lou says, "don't give me any of your backtalk"

when lou says, "mary, do you know what it's like to wake up next to a complete stranger" and mary first says "yes, i do" and then has to kind of back off that statement

and, of course, when sue ann says, "lou, you were wonderful...if you were a souffle, you'd rise high in the pan...[etc.]"
