Default Jaclyn Smith Expresses Regret On Not Doing "Angels" Reunions

Smith Regrets Failed Angels Reunions
1 July 2009 3:01 PM, PDT

Actress Jaclyn Smith regrets pulling out of two planned Charlie's Angels TV reunions - because now she'll never have the chance to work with the late Farrah Fawcett again.

Smith, who was among the celebrities in attendance at Fawcett's funeral in Los Angeles on Tuesday, has revealed there were firm plans to bring the three original Angels back together for a TV special before the release of the second Charlie's Angels movie in 2003 - but it fell flat.

She says, "They wanted us to do something that was so embarrassing."

And Smith, Fawcett and Kate Jackson also had the opportunity to sit down for a reunion special in 2006 - the same year the trio teamed up to pay tribute to Charlie's Angels creator Aaron Spelling at the Emmy Awards.

She tells TV Guide magazine, "Now I feel regret - why didn't we do it? We'd have that forever."

It is sad - but at least the other Angels are still alive and could reunite. I hope they do.

I want to see Cheryl Ladd included in the Reunions. It's rude, unfair, mean, and a slap to her fans not to include her in the Reunions. Cheryl Ladd rescued the show and was on the show for 4 years of the show's 5-year run.

AMEN!! Cheryl's first year on the show (the second season) had even higher ratings than the Farrah's year. Cheryl was a huge part of the show's success, and excluding her is just stupid. She was close friends with the late David Doyle (Bosley) and is still good friends with Jaclyn.

I believe it was Henry Winkler who was trying to put together the second proposed 'Angels' reunion (in 2006), and he was hoping to do a "sit-down" reunion similar to the ones they've done for 'Happy Days' and 'M*A*S*H.'

I also believe his intention was to include all of the Angels (including Cheryl, Shelley and Tanya) -- but, of course, the coup would have been having the original trio together again.

All due respect and credit to Cheryl Ladd (whom I adore), but it's almost always the original cast of a TV series who's remembered most fondly. So it makes sense that these proposed reunions fell apart without a commitment from all three of the original actresses. But I do hope the surviving cast members find some way to honor both the series and Farrah (as well as David Doyle and Aaron Spelling).

Not true. Many people watched Charlie's Angels during the second season. Plus, Cheryl is very popular and stayed on the show 4 years. Farrah was only there for one year. I don't even think of Farrah when I think of Charlie's Angels. I think of Cheryl/Kris.

Cheryl Ladd should be there. Many think of Cheryl Ladd when they think of the Angels. And even if people think of the original, there are also many who think of the longest running characters on the show versus a one-hit wonder.

Cheryl was a part of the show, but Farrah was an original. And the fact that she only did one season gives her a certain mystique.

As for Jaclyn's regrets, I can understand her feeling that way, but regrets are really pointless. You can't change the past.

Her reason for not participating and doing something embarrassing was valid. Let's say hypothetically that she did that "embarrassing" reunion and Farrah had lived. She'd be regretting the fact now that she did it.

It's a no-win situation.

Not really. Farrah Fawcett was so overexposed that it was hard to identify her with any mystique. In that case, Tanya Roberts and Shelly Hack should be given the mystique for doing only one year.

Plus, many people did not watch the first season. Many people, like myself, started watching during the second season.

^ I have to agree. I don't like S1 nearly as much as S2-S4 (I've only seen a few of the Tanya Roberts episodes from S5).

Maybe you started watching during the second season, but the show was a smash hit from the get go that first season. Trust me, many people were watching. I was one of them. The only reason Farrah left was because she got so big from the exposure on Charlie's Angels.

If it hadn't been a big hit, the show would either have been canceled or the ratings would have been just enough to get a renewal and Farrah would not have left.

In the short term, it hurt her career, because her first feature, Somebody Killed Her Husband was a bomb.

^ As were her next 2 features, Sunburn and Saturn 3. She also had a part in Cannonball Run before making a splash in TV movies like The Burning Bed, Extremities, Small Sacrifices and The Barbara Hutton Story. It was teleflicks like that which showed that Farrah really was much more than a pretty face.

I think Farrah should have stayed and done feature films during the summer hiatus. That way, she had something to fall back on.

But like Monika said, she eventually redeemed herself with good roles in some acclaimed TV movies.

I wonder how things would've turned out had Farrah done that and stayed with the show. I loved Cheryl/Kris so much that I can't imagine CA without her. The show's ratings went even higher once Farrah departed and Cheryl came on board in the 1977-78 season.
