Question Caller ID and You

If someone calls you but does not leave a message, do you call the person back because you see their phone number on your Caller ID? In that case, I don't call the person. I feel that perhaps they wanted to speak to me at that time only, maybe with a quick recipe question or they had time for a quick chat -- and they don't want to talk later. They may have misdialed. I may call a friend at 3 in the afternoon, but I don't want to talk at 6 when I'm making dinner or 8 when I'm watching a movie. What are your thoughts? Do you call people who don't leave a message, but their number is on your CID?

Nope. They absolutely must leave me a voicemail. I am deaf, but I do have my own mobile phone and the ability to get voicemail on it. I can't listen to my voicemail myself, so I have to have a relay operator do it for me. It's even specifically stated in my voicemail greeting. Something like "Hey there! You've reached Allison. If you are someone calling me, please text me at the same number you're calling, or leave me a voicemail. If you're a place of business calling me, please leave me a voicemail and I will get back to you ASAP." It works.

No. I HATE it when I call a wrong number and the person from the 'wrong number' calls me back after that. Ugh!!

Edit: if it's somebody I know, I will call them back in case of emergency, just to make sure everything's OK.

If I don't recognize the number, I don't pick up. If no message is left, I don't call back. Very simple.

Me, too. Most of the people who call my home phone are people selling stuff, a local charity hitting me up for money, or simply just a recording of a corporation. Nonoe of those is worth answering. Alot of them show a toll free number on my CID. When I started getting those, I was curious one day and answered it. It was somebody selling something.

Me too! Once I let my younger cousin use my phone when she was visiting. Later that evening a woman called (her boyfriend's mother? another girlfriend?) and demanded to know who I was because my name was on her caller ID. I couldn't believe someone could be that much of a control freak.

I think they do that out of nosiness. I usually just don't pick the phone back up.

I call them back. My friends don't always leave me a voicemail because they know if I don't pick up, I'll usually call back within a half hour. If I don't recognize the number I won't call them back-it's most likely a wrong number. But if it's a friend or family member, I'll call back.

I do the same thing, I don't call back... I figure, if it wasn't important enough to leave a message for, then they'll call back when it is.

I don't have caller id, so if someone calls and doesn't leave a message I won't know that they called. I appreciate it when people leave a message. I know most people have caller id.

I only call back if it's someone in the immediate family. I also have an answering machine so anyone else can leave a message.

I usually have my cell phone in my purse and can hear it ringing but can't find it in time to answer. Everyone knows this about me, so they expect me to just call back. If it's someone I don't know I won't call, they should leave a message.
