Elizabeth and Farrah: Eerie Similarities - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I posted this a few minutes ago on the Chit Chat thread re: Farrah's passing. It just flowed out of me. Think about this:

Here are some spooky similarities: Farrah Fawcett and Elizabeth Montgomery both passed away at age 62 of cancer of the GI tract (Farrah's was anal, and Elizabeth's was colorectal). Both shed their All-American images (Elizabeth as Samantha and Farrah as Jill) to become extremely respected dramatic actresses in daring TV movies. Both had long-term relationships with actors who were with them till the end (Elizabeth with Robert Foxworth, whom she eventually married after 20+ years of co-habitation and of course Farrah with Ryan O'Neal). Both actresses were beloved by fans and colleagues alike, both had beautiful blond hair and green eyes, and both actresses leave behind an amazing legacy of work and love. May they both always

Both women had "breakout" roles in movies that featured pretty extreme violence against women, too; Farrah in "The Burning Bed", and Elizabeth in "A Case of Rape".

Wow I never thought about those similarities before. The physical similarities are amazing as well. Both were blond and beautiful and were icons in the 70's. Well, I don't know that Elizabeth Montgomery would have been called an "icon" back then, but Farrah certainly was.

Both ladies were also Emmy-nominated for those movies.

Farrah was definitely a legend in her own time.

Liz didn't seem to be in the public eye nearly as much as Farrah, especially in the last few years of her life.

When I think of how sad it was that Farrah and Ryan didn't wed, it DID keep reminding me of Elizabeth and Robert Foxworth marrying close to the end. But I hadn't thought of all the other similarities! Amazing!

I finally saw A Case of Rape (it's on YouTube) - WOW. Liz was robbed of the Emmy that year!!

^ I remember seeing at least part of that movie when I was about 10 (yes, my parents let me watch but we always talked about the more adult topics after watching something like that and while by 1974 standards it was shocking, by today's standards it was pretty tame).

I think it was one of the first times I recognized really good acting. I knew Montgomery from Bewitched and seeing her in that role really made me understand, on some level at least, how good and versatile an actress she was.

Then I saw "The Legend of Lizzie Borden" and all doubts were totally cast away!

^ She was incredible as Lizzie Borden, and was a very convincing pioneer woman in The Awakening Land. She was nominated for Emmys in those movies (as well as A Case of Rape) but sadly never won any.

Other movies of hers I found on YouTube are The Victim (1972, her very first post-Bewitched project), Mrs. Sundance (1974, where she met future husband Robert Foxworth), and Face to Face (1990, also with Robert Foxworth). I plan on watching them all eventually.

^ I remember Mrs. Sundance. That one was a lot of fun. I think there was a sequel with Katherine Ross, who originated the role in the 1969 movie!

Well Liz did have the edge on Farrah in looks but also in men. I would like to hope that Liz would have never given someone like Ryan O'Neal a second look, but then again I never got what Farrah saw in him. She could do better.
