Default Sony blew my dvd player out.

I was recording something on tv and there was a prompt from Sony saying this is our programming you can't record this and then it said you failed to recognize the copyright notice so your machine will be shut down. This means I have to buy a new player.

BEWARE OF THE SONY TAKEDOWN THEY ARE TAKING PEOPLE DOWN ONE BY ONE. I THINK THAT THEY ARE MAKING SO MUCH MONEY IN SALES THAT THEY THINK THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT EVEN IF IT MEANS INCONVIENCING PEOPLE OR FRUSTRATING.

Sony will do anything to keep all the money they have even if it means being sneaky and underhanded.

How could Sony have possible blown out a DVD player? I once recorded a programme on my DVD player and has it blown out? No way.

Yes, please elaborate how this could be done? Were you recording something from tv or dubbing another dvd? I don't think this is possible, but if Sony did indeed destroy your player, I think we all want to know more details!!!

the technology was built into BluRay from the beginning - I have not heard of Sony implementing it yet, but as they control the product (the movies and shows), the hardware (the Sony- manufactured player), and the medium (the blank writable BluRay disks) they could certainly disable your player to prevent you from illegally copying their products.

this technology was in the BluRay specs from the beginning - they just didn't advertise it very well.

there are more articles out there about it, but I haven't actually read about any real-live cases, mostly because the people aren't really doing their copying 100% legally...

^ Wow, another reason not to buy Sony BlueRay. I'll just stick with my plain old Panasonic one.

Yeah, Sony Sux. Meanwhile, they only put out the 1st or 2nd season of the shows & refuse to release the rest.

We have to remember the newest players are built with the newest technologies. With the new digital tv and recorders and dvd. All of the products are set to do such things as disabling a player or stopping a recording in the first few minutes. It might seem better to stay away from sony and newer players until they get rid of the copyright law or until they give a more indeph look into why a person can just record a show for his or her personal collection. Sony wants people to go out and spend money they don't want people to stay at home and record a show that they produced for free. I am buying an older player that does not recognize the new copyright laws. I don't get it why copyright tv shows I understand music but why tv when most people watch it and dvr it when they go away. Shout Factory is the best way to go since they are not copyright happy.

If some corporation had to intentionally blow out a DVD or BluRay Player out and I have to waste money on a new one, I should have filed a lawsuit against that corporation.
