Gene Hackman, The two-time Oscar winner (”The French Connection,” “Unforgiven”) last made a movie in 2004—”Welcome to Mooseport.” It was so bad that he simply walked away from the business. Now 79 years old, Hackman makes big bucks doing commercial voiceovers for outfits like Lowe’s.

Gene Hackman is one of the greatest actors ever. His work will continue to live on.

Wow, I never knew he'd retired from acting.

Yea I heard that he retired. It's too bad that he didn't go out with a great movie. He deserves it. I agree, his movies will live on forever.

But I think things turned out for the best. Gene Hackman went on to become a great movie star and Robert Reed was a great Mike Brady. It's just too bad that he didn't realize how loved he was across America. He was a perfect TV Dad.

He should get together with Clint Eastwood and make a movie.

Gene Hackman is a remarkable character actor. It would be nice to see him do another Oscar worthy movie. I think that movie "Welcome to Mooseport" sucked the passion out of him.

Gene is one of my favorite older actors. I have only seen parts of Welcome to Mooseport and it was awful. I do hope Gene does some work here and there in the future.

I like Gene Hackman's Lowe's commericals. I recognized his voice instantly. I think if the right movie came along, he would take the bait. My guess (or hope, rather, since I really like him) is that he didn't retire permanently.

I didn't know he retired. He was a good actor. I saw a movie of his with Morgan Freeman and Monica Bellucci that was disappointing called Under Suspicion. I also saw him recently in Bonnie And Clyde movie with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. I really liked him in Mississippi Burning. I was surprised he wanted to find out who killed that black guy that was a civil rights activist because i thought he might've been racist. Back in those days, whites didn't care about blacks so it was nice to see Gene wanting to find out who killed that black guy.

I'd have to say my favorite of his is The French Connection. I love the famous car chase; the scene was great for its time.
Also, it's another "neighborhood movie" for me. I watch it and like looking at how my area has changed from 30+ years ago. |
