Default New UM DVDs actually coming? Article

It looks as though they are re-releasing them, but what peaked my interest was the "12 disc just titled "Unsolved Mysteries""

I just don't get this. They didnt release further sets cause the sets did not sell well. Since then the price has dropped many times for these sets. Now they are re packaging & releasing them again. There is a chance that these new ones will have the new host. If that is the case, they are wasting there time cause I do not see these selling very well. I don't think there releasing any new sets. They should though instead of doing what there doing. IDIOTS!

Question

So are there NEW episodes. or the same ones? If they are the same ones then that dosen't make any sense.

Thinking about this more just makes me irate. I really don't think these are gonna be new episodes that have never been to DVD. If they are, I will be shocked.

So it is re packaging with a lower price or these are with the new host.

If it is the repackaging with lower price option, yeah this makes total sense. I have seen these sets priced even lower then the new sets that are coming out! If they went this route, Why couldn't they instead given us new sets with episodes we have not gotten on dvd at a lower price?

If they are episodes with the new host, that's idiotic as well. Specially given the low sales from the first sets. I really cannot see these selling better. Even if they do have episodes on them that have not been to dvd before. I do not tune in to the new UM for what they have done to the show. I sure as heck refuse to pay money for these episodes that have been chopped up.

Here's what the Product Description on Amazon says for Ghosts,

They're more than Halloween stories...they're real. Explore the paranormal with host Robert Stack in volume one of this two set-collection of the best of UNSOLVED MYSTERIES GHOSTS. From the deck of the ocean liner Queen Mary to the Black Hope Curse of a Texas subdivision built on an old slave burial ground, these are the true stories of neighbors, relatives and government officials who have witnessed strange phenomena that scientists can't explain.

So it sure as Hades looks like a re release. Why in the world they're doing this is freaking bizarre. In particular when as has been mentioned you can get the full original releases for cheaper.

I was genuinely curious about this so I did some sleuthing...

Here is the original release of "Ghosts" from 2004

http://www.amazon.com/Unsolved-Myste...5404087&sr=8-1

The set is 4 discs; running time is 588 minutes.

The new release is 2 discs and runs 195 minutes. Less than half the length of the 2004 release.

Original release of "Bizarre Murders"

http://www.amazon.com/Unsolved-Myste...404087&sr=8-10

4 disc set; 373 minutes.

New release: 2 discs; 179 minutes.

If I had to guess, I would say that these two sets are merely shortened re-releases of the previous sets at a more reasonable price.

I have no idea what the "Unsolved Mysteries" 12 disc set could be. The running time is 1538 minutes on 12 discs. The rough equivalent of 128 minutes per disc.

Full episodes of Unsolved (sans commercials) were 47 minutes. If these are actual episodes, there could be about 32 of them included.

Given First Look's poor track record, I highly doubt we're getting full length episodes though.

At best, we can hope these sets will contain stories that haven't already been released on previous sets.

I have to admit that I don't follow their logic here. The previous full length sets have already been re-released as both an "Ultimate Collection" and a "Best of". If these are more re-releases using the same stories, well, I just don't see the point.

Why do I have the suspicion that this is just going to be a shortened re-release of the Ultimate Collection? It does fit with the whole splitting the sets in half thing they appear to be doing.

perhaps it's a triple threat: Farina hosted, chopped up, segments that were already on the previous sets.

It seems the simple explanation is that they've broken up each older set into two volumes with two discs each (instead of one volume with 4 discs).

It just strikes me as odd that they are re-releasing those original sets. I am SUUURE almost POSITIVE that there are TONS of those previous sets still at retailers/etailers unsold. It seems like a very strange move on First Look's part, especially when sets don't sell well, studios usually stop producing them, not re releasing them. It hopefully will be a good thing.

There's a picture of the Box Art on amazon. What's the deal with these?
