Brian Graden, president of entertainment of MTV Networks' Music and Logo group, is leaving as part of a broader reorganization at the cable outfit, The Post has learned.
Multiple sources inside or close to MTV said Graden has been talking for at least six months with MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath and President Van Toffler about stepping down at the end of his contract. Sources said the reorganization could come as soon as the end of this month. An 11-year veteran of Viacom, Graden is credited -- or blamed -- for moving MTV away from pure music toward reality programming. Among the shows he's developed are "South Park" and "The Osbournes." Sources said MTV is not likely to replace him, as Graden role was unique within the company. For instance, Doug Herzog serves as president of the entertainment group, with the programming heads for the individual networks like Comedy Central and Spike reporting to him. What's more, Graden is said to be among the highest paid executives at the company with annual total compensation at an estimated $7 million per year, sources said. http://www.nypost.com/seven/06152009...mtv_174405.htm |

MTV is so far away from its original mission statement, I really cannot see it ever returning to its former glory and proper place in pop culture history...

I would be in Heaven if one of the cable companies decided to do an all music-video station with only music from certain eras, like the 50's-90's or even less of a time frame than that. I'd prefer the oldies and 80's but there was some pretty good music in the 90's as well. I guess they could show old concerts and specials too, but none of this reality crap or movies that are music-related. I mean, I can see where it would make sense to put those kind of movies on a station like the classic MTV, but people used to tune into MTV FOR the music videos! Andrea |

That's why I made all those petitions a few weeks ago.
I hope that the people in the MTV/Viacom regions put everything back to where they were...or close to it! Because sooner or later...Reality TV will be a fad! |
