Default Will computers ever become voice activated??

Do you think they will ever develop this sort of technology?? I think it would be so much easier to write emails, pm's, etc if you were able to do it with your voice, and have the computer type out what you say. I really don't see that as being unrealistic at all, and I figure they've got to be getting close to where that kind of technology would be available. What do you guys think? You see this happening anytime soon?

I could be wrong, and I probably am, but I seem to recall seeing software available for that. Someone told me it sucked though, so who knows.

No. There is already a program to talk to the computer as it writes what you say.

I remember a while back I was doing some homework in a class and there was a lady using that kind of program and it was kinda annoying because I couldn't concentrate.

If anyone knows the name of any voice activated program, please let me know, as this would help me so much, especially with my ADD. It's embarrassing always having tons of emails and pm's to get back to, but being able to do it with your voice would make it so much easier. So if anyone has any information, please let me know. Thanks!!

That's what Brad asked.

My old computer came with a program for that. I think it was called Dragon Naturally Speak or something like that. It was a red disk with a silver dragon on it. I never installed it because I didn't purchase the microphone system (it was my first computer so I was naive about what to purchase.) You could probably look up reviews for it online and see what others say about it.

to a limited extent speech recognition is built in to XP (may need to have Office installed for full speech-to-text) and Vista, its pretty clunky and how well it works really depends on how good your hardware is, but it is there.

i have used it in the past when i have had problems with my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - very useful for transcribing long blocks of text, but you have to go slow and will have to go back and correct it. When not in pain I can type faster than dictate, but that may not be true for you.

I haven't used Dragon, but it is dedicated to speech functions and it has been around forever so it may be worth checking out if you can afford it.

My friend uses the built in system on his computer that has Vista. He only uses when he is really tired. I have another friend whose uncle is a quadriplegic and he uses Dragon because it's bit more reliable.

I hope not! I would much rather type than have to say something each time.

I so totally agree with you.

We have given computers too much power and too much responsibility and things that humans should be doing.

I think voice activated computers could be good for alot of people, particularly people who experience chronic pain, and people who have disorders such as ADD. For chronic pain sufferers especially I think this kind of technology would be very beneficial. I know a few chronic pain sufferers who have trouble writing emails, because sitting for long periods of time makes their pain worse. I think it would be cool if they could just lay down when they're having a rough day, and be able to get back to their friends by just speaking. I can understand certain people not liking this sort of technology, but I can see it being very useful for a large group of people.
