Question Did Julie Kavner STEAL the Show from Valerie Harper?

On MTM, Rhoda was a breakout star, but on her own spinoff, did her sister become the star of the show?

I don't know if Julie stole the show from Valerie but she was certainly a breakout star on that show much the way Valerie had been on Mary's show.

Yeah, I think Rhoda was the Mary of her own show, and Brenda was like the MTM-Rhoda.

Nancy Walker was just as big. She even left the show for awhile to star in her own show on ABC.

I also enjoyed her work as Emily Turner in the last season of Family Affair.

Nancy Walker always cracked me up. She was on everything in the '70's. She was also a regular cast member of McMillan and Wife during the same time she was on Rhoda. She could do it all.

I think Kavner did sort of become the "Rhoda" character while Rhoda became a bit more like Mary. Kavner "out Rhoda"ed Rhoda!

She also guested on The Muppet Show (as did Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman, all in separate seasons). I loved when Ida was about to kill Phyllis for not picking up Rhoda on her wedding day!!

I also love Georgette's line in "The Wedding" after forgiving Phyllis,"I forgive you but I'd get my tail out of here, before Rhoda showes up!"

"out-Rhoda'd Rhoda"! That is a great way to put it and oh-so-true! Julie is one of the reasons I often think I like the "Rhoda" show better than MTM show.

Rhoda was definitely better than MTM, better storylines and mainly because it was a adult comedy and not a show that revolved the newscast.
