Adam Lambert signs record deal
NEW YORK -- Adam Lambert's bad luck apparently begins and ends with losing "American Idol." The 27-year-old has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings and RCA Records and is prepping his debut album for a fall release, 19 Entertainment said Tuesday.
The news comes one day after the company announced that "Idol" winner Kris Allen signed a similar deal with 19/Jive Records. "I'm thrilled that we've come to a creative and collaborative partnership and look forward to developing a really exciting album," Lambert said in a statement. "We are 100% on the same page and are all anxiously awaiting the start of the recordings." "It's going to be ridiculous!" added Lambert. "Get Ready!!!" A struggling theater actor before he auditioned for "Idol," Lambert was a favorite to win the show's eighth season until Allen's upset victory, but the singer doesn't seem to have lost any momentum since the loss. "Season 8 Favorite Performances," his 12-song set, sold 10,000 copies this week to chart at No. 52 on the Billboard 200 and has sold a total of 25,000 copies since its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Allen's album, for those keeping track, is at No. 125 this week and has sold a total of 14,000 copies. Lambert also has two singles on the Hot 100 this week, with his cover of "Mad World" seated at No. 44 and his version of the "Idol" coronation song, "No Boundaries," at No. 95. Allen currently has three songs on the Hot 100: "No Boundaries at No. 23, "Heartless" at No. 33, and "Ain't No Sunshine" at No. 94. "To find a talent as exceptional as Adam Lambert is a rare and special event," said Simon Fuller, "Idol" creator/executive producer and the CEO of 19 Entertainment. "I am thrilled that 'American Idol' was the platform for the world to discover this brilliant young man. He is unique and unforgettable and a certain star of tomorrow." Before they dive into the recording of their solo debuts, Lambert and Allen will join their fellow Top 10 "Idol" contestants on the American Idols Live tour starting July 5 in Portland, Ore. Lambert's personal life will presumably continue to hold the public's attention. He addresses the speculation over his sexuality for the first time in the new issue of Rolling Stone, saying, "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay. ... I'm proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It's just another part of me." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...f9cc3ad569dea2 |
