Question Anyone else get paranoid about people who don't like you, sharing untrue stories.....

About you with others? I'll be honest with you, I've been paranoid about this ever since I first came online. One of the reasons I come across as being so nice, is because of this very reason. I don't want someone to dislike me, and make up lies about me to my friends. I know there are people out there like that. The main reason I come across as being nice is because it's just my personality, but I'd be lying if I said the risk of making enemies didn't play a part. I get paranoid when I don't hear from a friend for awhile, sometimes thinking that someone made up a lie about me that my friend believed. Actually makes me so nervous, it makes me physically ill at times. The internet can be a scary place sometimes!!! I don't know, maybe it's just me, but does anyone else here ever have similar worries??

I don't trust anyone, so yeah, I can be paranoid as well. I think people at work are talking about me all the time. Wouldn't surprise me if online people were too.

I used to get that way but not anymore. I learned long ago that for whatever reasons everyone will not accept you, so I just deal and go on with my life.

oh lord yes. this is why i no longer even tell anyone that my best friend exists if they don't already know. he's always been quite a heartthrob among girls, and i'm his best friend and we have feelings for each other even though we're not dating anymore, so i get a lot of crap. girls have always lied to us about each other to try to ruin our relationship, and it's mostly to him about me. it was worse in high school, but it still goes on in college. one of them once made up stories about me physically attacking and beating her when i'd never even laid a hand on her ugly ass (she also used to beg him to cheat on me with her while we were dating). the intent here obviously was to make him appalled and disgusted at me, comfort her out of sympathy, and thus increase the chances of her getting with him. he had a girlfriend once who was so jealous of me, she would twist around and take everything i said about him out of context, and report it to him to try to make him mad at me. it's so ******** and childish, but to their misfortune he's not an idiot and he knows he can trust me over them, so i never actually feel threatened by it. it's just very annoying that no one has ever left us alone.

I've felt this way from time to time. Though it's not because I'm worried that people are talking behind my back. If I don't hear from someone in a while, I start to worry that I may have said something to offend them.

I've said things about you to other people, Cathy, but it has always been good stuff.

You took the words right out of my mouth. A couple of years ago, I wanted everyone to like me. Then a guy I worked with flat out told me he hated me, for no reason (he actually said that), and slowly but surely I began to realize not everyone is going to like me. There will always be people who don't agree with my opinion or not like me for whatever reason they find (and there have been a couple of people like that throughout these past couple of years). I stopped caring about what they thought a while ago. It's just not worth it; too much stress and heartache over people who could care less about you.

I don't worry about it online, but it's actually happened in my own family. I don't care or get paranoid anymore, because that half of the family is nothing but hypocrite lunatics, anyway.

I can't imagine anyone having anything bad to say about you, Michael. You're too nice of a guy.

That's a really good point, Megan. No matter how hard we try, there are always going to be people who aren't going to like us.

Thanks. The sad thing is that it's all adults. A couple aunts and uncles, and one of my older cousins. It was mostly in the past, but who knows if it's still going on. I really don't care what they have to say, though, because they are awful people.

I have an uncle who is kind of a jerk too. He never has anything nice to say about anyone. Well, besides himself.
