A while ago people discussed it's coming a remake of the hit movie Poltergeist from 1982. Hmm, I don't really like that. This came to my mind when I just read "The Exorcist" topic and that that film should never be a remake. I think the same with Poltergeist, I don't want it to be a remake. And plus,
Heather O'Rourke is the only Carol Anne. She did it so well. What do you think?

I think Poltergeist was completely jinxed. Way too many bad things happened during the making of those films. They'd be crazy to make another one.

It's not really my favorite film either, but I like Heather O'Rourke's appearances in it. She was good, and no one else can do her role better than her.

[/QUOTE]I wholeheartedly agree, my dear Jessica.Upon considering recent inferior remakes of classics such as,''Born Yesterday'',''Psycho'',''The Omen'',''Yours,Mine,And Ours'',''Cheaper ByThe Dozen'',and, most recently,''The Day The Earth Stood Still'',it is no surprise that skeptical folks like us can't see a remake of that 1982 Tobe Hooper classic as just asking for trouble...one way or another. As fellow sitcomsonline member,Liza, pointed out a lot of horrible incidents were associated with the trio of ''Poltergeist'' movies. The lovely, young actress Dominique Dunne(daughter of famous crime reporter,Dominick Dunne),who portrayed Carol Anne's teen sister was strangled by her boyfriend,in real life, not long after the release of the first film. Will Sampson,Geraldine Fitzgerald,Julian Beck(actors who portrayed the American Indian shaman, grandmother,Jess, and Reverend Henry Kane)passed away after the making of the second film,''Poltergeist2:The Other Side''(MGM:1986).Heather O"Rourke(Carol Anne)had died due to surgical complications,on an operating table,in a hospital somewhere. Why would anybody want to put any other actors ,or anyone else, in a position of possible harm,in a remake of some sort? Why press your luck or anybody else's? Finally, in closing, I'd like to bring up that celebrity duo of famous critics, Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel, when they were in their heyday. One of the things they agreed on was that if filmakers wanted to do remakes, they should do remakes of terrible movies instead of box office winners. Doing remakes of bad movies would show more of a tendency of being creative. On the other hand, when you do a remake of a popular movie, you're being more of a profiteer than a moviemaker. While making movies is about making money, it should also be about presenting something fresh and original. |

Yes, No one else can do the TV scene like Heather did. Okay, the might wanna do an own version, but some films shouldn't get remake, like this one. I know that they thought about doing a remake of The Exorcist, but there was so many that didn't want it, so they didn't make one.
And Yes, this so called curse of the poltergeist was when there were rumors they used real skeletons in the pool scene Jobeth Williams was in. There were people dying in after every Poltergeist film that was made, and others who was involved some has had bad luck. Also, the director of Poltergeist 2, Brian Gibson died of a disease, at age 59, in 2006. So why do another one? Ok, so I don't think they will use real skeletons in this, but it's still Poltergeist-related, so what if something happens, some will believe it's the curse that have struck again. Heather was only 12 years old.

And now Geraldine Fitzgerald is on the list? She died in 2005, at the age of 92. What, so if she hadn't starred in a Poltergeist film, she would have lived to the age of 130? It's absurd. |

I have thought the same, Dominique Dunne who played Dana, the teenage daughter in the first, was the first one in the Poltergeist who died, she was strangled by her boyfriend, I'm pretty sure no one was aware of this so called curse by then, it was in 1982 the same year the film was made.
In 1988 Heather O'Rourke died from a bowel obstruction wich could have been cured if it was cought early enough. |

I couldn't stand to see the cast that they would use to redo Poltergeist. The original cast was perfect. Heather O'Rourke was cute, sweet, and innocent, something that Carol Anne needed. It added to the horror element, the fact that a young girl who didn't do anything wrong could end up in one of the worst situations.
I know that they used a lot of effects in the original Poltergeist, but they only used what they needed. Topday the whole thing would probably consist of over used and overly emphasized special effects. The thing that is so great about the originals is that they didn't have all the effects and everything so they actually had to think of a scary storyline. They actually had you focusing on what was really going on in the movie rather than who's getting what limb cut off and by what. Today Hollywood's idea of horror is to just make it as gory as possible without any story behind it what so ever. |

I agree I don't think anyone could play Carol Ann. But I do think weird things will happen on a remake set.

No, they should not redo this film, and I agree, today's horror films are mostly about nothing and they make it all bloody and not creepy. Carol Anne was Heather O'Rourke's part. She was the best for these films.

Any classic film should not be remade in my opinion. Yeah I may watch a remake but it will no way come near to an original.
