A very sad & tragic story
I just found out about this late last night although it happened the other morning. I guess my mom was just way too upset to tell me about it sooner.
She has 2 dogs, Molly, a shiz tsu, and Oscar, a dachshund. Oscar was only about 4 and she got him at the vet when a lady came in and said she couldn't take care of him anymore. So mom took him home. He was very, very active but he was so sweet & loving, and he got along great with Molly. So mom was walking the dogs the other morning about 4:15am. Mom wakes up at weird times and she figured she would walk them when there wasn't alot of people out. They went down to the end of the street and mom was just going to turn around and head back to the house. Instead, Oscar wanted to go down to the next street, so mom followed him, then when they got to that street, she was going to turn around then. When they did that, she saw 3 guys & 2 pit bulls walking towards them. They live 4 houses from mom. Just the night before, she was walking the dogs, the guys were outside drinking, and one of the dogs was out front, not on a leash. My mom picked up her dogs and said to the guys that a dog like that needs to be in the house or back yard, not out front. One of the guys said that his dogs have never attacked anybody. She went back to her house. The next morning though things were totally different though because the pits caught sight of mom, Molly & Oscar, and started running towards them. I don't know what the heck the guys were doing, I guess the dogs were just too fast for them. They knocked my mom over(she's 66), and went after Oscar. One of them bit hard into his stomach. Somehow Molly got loose of her collar and ran all the way home. That shows how smart she is to know where her house is even though they were around the corner. Of course, Oscar didn't survive. This little 10 lb dog against these God knows how heavy these pits were. The people who lived in the house where all this was happening were awoken by all the commotion and called 911. Mom said the police were there in less than a minute. I still don't know where the heck these guys were and why they didn't try to get their dogs off!! I don't know why they were even out at 4:30 in the morning with their dogs. You can't tell me they were out walking them, too. The people who called 911also gave my mom a garbage bag to put Oscar in to take him back to the house. A couple neighbors dug the hole in the backyard and helped my mom bury him. Also when the officer drove my mom back to her house, they found Molly hiding behind some bushes near the house. So the police called animal control to come get the dogs. The thing is the dogs weren't at their house. Those guys had put the dogs in hiding. Well, I don't know what was said, but finally they brought the dogs back. They were seized and put to sleep, and the owner was fined. These dogs who "never attacked anybody before". Of course, my mom is a wreck. She really loved Oscar. He may have been my mom's dog but like I said, he was such a sweetie, and he certainly didn't deserve such a horrific death. NOBODY deserves something like that. Just think that if these dogs were not put to sleep, whose to say that the next thing they "attack" wouldn't be a child? (Sorry, this story is so long, I didn't want to leave anything out). RIP, Oscar, taken from this earth way too soon. |

That's awful. I think the owners should have been put to sleep as well. I'm glad your mom wasn't hurt worse than she could have been. I wonder why they chose to go after Oscar?
Oscar. What an awful way to go. Is Molly having a hard time with Oscar being gone?

Yeah, I thought it was strange that they went after Oscar. Mom had just scrapes & bruises, thank goodness. Molly is doing OK, sometimes when she got out in the backyard, she goes & lays by his grave. It's really heartbreaking. Again, thank you for your concern.

I'm sorry that happened to your mom and her dog. Some people just don't deserve to own pets, or have children.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry to hear about Oscar! Give your mom my condolences and tell her that I hope she's doing better! Those guys should have been held responsible for their pets. I don't know why some idiots are allowed to have dogs if they don't even want to put them on a leash.

Such a heartbreaking story... why do people allow their dangerous animals to run freely, causing such a menace to society?!?

...Aw.
Oh man, it broke my heart to read this. I ****ing hate owners who don't train their dogs and don't give a rat's ass about other people. Their dogs do so much more damage than is visible to the eye. I'm SO sorry about Oscar. The poor little guy; no dog should have to die like that. I hate hearing about stuff like this and dogs being in pain. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad the pit bulls were put to sleep, but the owners need more of a punishment than that and a fine.
