Among the plots are Scott, encouraged by Vanessa and Serena, getting a spot on the GIRLS' soccer team after losing a spot on the boys', Lexie hanging out at the mall and getting busted by police, and frequent scuffles with various neighbors. Vanessa breaks the fourth wall, making comments to the viewing audience. Gerald McRaney will appear from time to time as their uncle Richard, a cable news reporter.

Serena is not happy when she gets a phone call from police saying that Lexie and some friends have been sent to jail on charges of theft. Serena puts her foot down after returning home punishing Lexie for two weeks of staying home. Also, Vanessa experiences her first day in college, while Scott begins to study for a journalism career.
