Of the four Keaton children, who do you think was most like Mr. and Mrs. Keaton? Even though I think all of them took after mom and dad in some way, I think Jennifer was the one who was most like her parents. While Alex was concerned mainly with money and Mallory was all about fashion, Jennifer seemed to be a deep thinker like Steven and Elyse. Where as Alex and Mallory were very much children of the 80's, I think Jennifer was more of a throw back to the 60's.

I voted for Jennifer too - she was smart, hard-working and, in the later years, she seemed to become quite liberal and interested in environmental issues.
I also agree that all the kids, even Alex, were like their parents in some ways. Although Alex could be selfish and was focused on money and right-wing, he was very hard-working and pushed himself, which I believe he inherited from Steven and Elyse - they certainly encouraged hard work. At heart, he was a really kind, caring person and he didn't have any racial or religious prejudices. Mallory was kind and warm like her parents, although she didn't always push herself which I think is something Elyse and Steven did. She was fairly bright, and when she tried, she did quite well - but whereas I think Steven and Elyse would put in effort at things they weren't too keen on, Mallory only tended to put effort towards her interests. |

This is off topic, but I liked how, although Steven and Elyse were portrayed as very liberal and nostalgic for the 1960s, they weren't radical and could seem conservative in some small ways. Without wanting to turn this into a political discussion, I'll just say that I've always thought the middle line is best when it comes to politics - I'm not comfortable with going too far to the right or too far to the left. There's an episode in one of the later seasons (which I haven't seen) in which Steven realises that some of the left-wing views that he held in the 1960s have changed and I think it was interesting that they explored that, as I think that was probably the case with quite a lot of people who were young during that era - as they grew older and started families and moved into stable careers, they became more middle-ground. |
