Bub/William Frawley

When William Frawley passed away was it written in the storyline that Bub passed away, or did he just move away also? Did Uncle Charlie come along before, or after Mike left? I've never seen all the episodes from this era.

When William Frawley left the series due to ill health the storyline written to cover his departure was that Bub was going on a trip to Ireland. His brother Charlie O'Casey replaced Bub on the series. This took place midway through the 1964-1965 season. Tim Considine who played Mike left the show after the first episode of the following season.

The insurance coverage for William Frawley became too costly, from what I've read over the years -- that was the reason for his replacement. He did in fact come back to the set as a visitor after he was off the series, and during shooting bugged William Demarest with criticism.

Right away, Wm. Demarest's name was added to the opening when he came on board, so it was clear that he was a permanent addition to the cast.

You will enjoy those years when you have the chance to see them. Tim Considine is a fine actor and his contribution is later missed. Mike's romance with Sally is well done, and her father is played by Sebastian Cabot. IIRC, Mike's old girlfriend Jean returns for a final appearance to close that chapter in their lives. Ernie Thompson pops up as a very young friend of Chip's. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Tina Cole appears in at least one b/w episode, later coming on again in a color ep -- not yet as Katie -- and of course eventually as Katie, when the Douglases move to LA.

In my opinion, most of the color seasons are a little bland by comparison to the black and white era. However, I love Tina Cole and Beverly Garland, so I'm still a major fan of the entire run. And the occasional guest star like Leslie Parrish, Vera Miles, or Yvonne Craig gave a nice boost in the later years.

Thanx for all the trivia and info. I wonder whats going to happen with dvd releases for MTS. I don't like that its being releases by half season.

Yup that brings back memories of that season. I remember watching when Jean did return and Ernie was just a friend of Chip's. Havent thought of that in a while.
