Native Americans have a huge problem being able to register to use FB, too. There was an article about a Native American female from South Dakota named Robin Kills The Enemy who got locked out of her FB account for the same reason too...

Meanwhile, people can get away with creating accounts for their freakin' PETS and FICTIONAL people. So annoying.

I like the fact that people can create pages for their pets and fictional people. I tried to create a profile for a cat once but Facebook wouldn't accept the name.

Just another reason for me not to waste my time with Facebook.

I don't particularly like it, though. Same thing goes for celebrities... There are a handful of celebs out there who REALLY do create their own FB profiles (Damone Roberts, for instance... he was on the show "10 Years Younger" over here in the States, and is a major name in NYC and LA), but most of the profiles are by other people, for ****s 'n giggles.

I wish FB would stop trying to be like Myspace, and vice versa.

Well, if you think of it another way - in an alternate reality, fictional people are real, so many of them will probably have their own Facebook profiles. So it's kind of like a blurring of the realities. Because in other realities, people who are fictional in this one, are real people in the other reality.

One of my friends created a profile for his dog. He used his last name as the dog's last name and it was accepted.

i may sign my cat Glitch up for Facebook just to see what happens - he'll probably get more friends and use it more than I do though.

Actually, if you guys want a great site that started LONG before Facebook or MySpace even, go to Dogster.com My dogs AND cats are all signed up there. Next to SO, it's my favourite site - and a lot more fun than Facebook anyday!

yeah, same. i often get asked if my last name is real when i tell people what it is. if i were a rock musician there's no doubt the public would assume it's just a stage name. it's an amazing name though so if it costs me an account on a confusing web site, so be it.

It seems to me that you should be allowed to use whatever name you want on Facebook or Myspace.

I'm sorry, I'm just not seeing it the rest of the audience's way. I signed up on FB back in early 2006, right before it turned 2 years old. Back then, it was still extremely strict about the name you went by. You could be "John S." or "John Smith" on FB. Now things like "John Rockin' Smith" and "John <3 Smith" are getting by. A couple I know made one FB together, and their name looks like this - not exactly, but you get the idea: "Fluffy N Spot." WTF, guys. I want 2006 Facebook back.
