Peter Jackson has recently confirmed that the upcoming two films set in Middle-Earth would not be The Hobbit + a 'bridge' film to LotR. Instead, he says The Hobbit will be split into two parts, allowing them to ensure that nothing is cut from the original tale and also allowing them flesh out content that was only vaguely mentioned in passing in the source material.

Guillermo del Toro has elaborated on the latter, saying that they'll be looking into adding scenes from the White Council and their assault on Sauron's Mirkwood fortress of Dol Guldor. Presumably, this means they'll be wanting Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee back to reprise their respective roles.

I'll be seeing these when they come out but I am more looking forward to The Christ Must Die if that turns out to be true.
