Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones in 1969, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in 1970, Doors frontman Jim Morrison in 1971 and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobian in 1994. All five of them were rock stars who died at the age of 27. Who's death was the greatest loss for Rock music?
For me it was Jim Morrison. The love the Doors. The Doors were the first thinking man's hard rock band. Morrison's lyrics were meant not simply to entertain but to teach. He wanted his audiance to reflect on life, death, the world, everything. He was also a great frontman. The death of Brian Jones was a tragedy, but the Stones brought in Mick Taylor and were better than ever. I like Nirvana and was saddened by Cobian's death, but I've never been a huge fan. I've never had any interst in Hendrix and Joplin at all. |

They werent 27 when they passed but I think Otis Redding and Sam Cooke should be added to this list.
Of the list above I will go with both Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones mainly because I found them to be extremly talended musicians and could have went on to do more. No offense but I am no fan of the Doors, Nirvana or Janis Joplin. |

I'm not a fan of Janis Joplin either. With the exception of one or two of her songs, I have heard almost nothing of her music. I like Nirvana, though I do think they were overrated. I think Cobian was a good, honest songwriter and I really like their album, Nevermind. The Doors, on the other hand, are one of my all time favorite bands. Their music is amazing, powerful and timeless. They recorded only six albums and five of them are either great or all time classics. Whenever I play their albums and hear songs like "Light My Fire", "Break On Through" and "Riders On The Storm", I still get the same feeling that I got when I was in high school. It's like an adrenaline rush! |

For this thread, I'm 27 and it's weird thinking about them dying at my age. Mainly because they've accomplished something and had fame, where I just work at Kroger and sit around either watching TV or getting online. To be honest, I didn't know any of them were 27 when they died. They all seemed older to me. I'll go with either Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin. I like a couple of her songs, and I have a cd compliation of The Doors. The others, I've not paid much attention to. |

I voted for Janis Joplin because I think she was a pioneer for women in rock. When I think of all these musicians who died way to young it makes me want to say "take another little piece of my heart now baby"

Jim Morrison gets my vote. I love the Door's music, and I think he was a cutie. It's really something that they were all 27.
