that's fantastic!
congrats for recognizing the greatness of TMTMS at such a young age, and kudos for indeed doing such a nice job talking with cloris even though it was obviously very emotional for you! i would love to hear about your visit with mary, and would love to see the cloris pics, too |

You met Cloris AND Mary?!! I'm so jealous! Meeting Mary has been like the Holy Grail for me. LOL. I haven't had a chance yet, unfortunately. Why did all her booksignings have to be in NYC and not the suburbs?! I have met Valerie, though, and she's absolutely wonderful. Anyone who hasn't seen the pics yet (I know most of you here prob. have!), can check them out here. If you want to see my whole site, the main page is here. (Excuse the rather shameless plug!

Doesn't Cloris look great for her age!
I was getting a carpet laid in my hall, the men, laying it,noticed a picture of Cloris that I have, and said "she's a bit of alright" I'm sure Cloris would be delighted by that reaction lol |

Emily, That is so cool, and thanks for sharing the pictures! Thats also amazing you remembered the whole conversation with her. Write it down and keep it with the picture!
I met Betty White once. (Late 70's/early 80's?), I know it was sometime after TMTMS, but before The Golden Girls. Anyway, she was at a department store doing a book signing for one of her dog books. I just ran up catch a glimpse of her, as they were wrapping things up. I remember she was getting up to follow "her people" into some door, when she saw me just standing there like a silly star-struck teenager. (I didn't feel I had any right to go up to the table as I wasn't prepared to buy the book) Anyway she said "can I help you?" I remember saying, I loved you on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and she smiled and said "That was Fun!". Sure wish I asked for her autograph. But ever since that day I've thought of her as my very favorite actress, because she's just so gracious and "real". She always appriciated her fans! |

Yes Betty White seems a lovely lady,I got her autograph years ago by writing to her Agent,I liked The Betty White Show too but I know Betty didn't like it very much.

That's a shame you had such a bad experience with Mary. Maybe she is really shy, but that still doesn't excuse being flat out rude. At least you had an awesome experience with Cloris!

I wonder if she just didn't feel well, do to her health. Maybe public appearances like this are too much for her anymore, or maybe she never did well with publicity. Who knows?

sorry to hear of your celeb experience. my mary meeting was extremely positive and i know many others’ have been, but it can happen, i’m sure, and i was at least prepared for the possibility
i have to agree with markway...if your visit indeed happened the way you described it, it could have been an offshoot of a health issue, especially with her situation...or, as is happening to us all, she’s getting older, with some of the attendant problems let’s face it, she also could have just been ticked off at something, or just been tired, etc....or maybe she chose that moment to take a step back from all the stress of having to be ‘‘on’’ all the time in front of the public. i know that would be a drain for me. or could it have been that you just expected too much? celebs aren't perfect...they’re human like you and me. knowing that, maybe you can take the high road and not let it color your overall enjoyment of MTM and her shows! p.s. personally i would never shake hands with 100 or however many people at a time and she may feel the same way. and i know you said you saw her shake hands with some people, but when i was there, some friends came along she’d obviously known for a long time and it was therefore appropriate for her to shake hands with them i guess my point is, a lot of times you don’t know what the exact situation is, so why not give the MTM the benefit of the doubt? |
