Playboy Enterprises reported a wider first-quarter loss Monday due to impairment and restructuring charges and sluggish momentum across its divisions.
The adult entertainment company lost $13.7 million, compared to a year-ago loss of $4.2 million despite recent cost cutting. Revenue fell 21.5% to $61.6 million. The company cited asset sales and "the effects of the global economic slowdown on advertising and consumer spending" as key drivers of the revenue decline. U.S. TV revenue fell to $13.3 million from $16.5 million. "We are beginning to see the results of the extensive restructuring and cost-reduction work that we began implementing in last year's fourth quarter," said Playboy interim chairman and CEO Jerome Kern. "This performance is still not acceptable, however, and we expect to continue making changes that will lead to further improvements in the magazine's financial results." Playboy has previously said it is considering its strategic options, including an outright sale. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...b901493276fa43 |

I know this is huge news to alot of people, but I couldn't care less if the magazine folded. The only time I ever bought a playboy was the two times that Sable, formerly of WWE fame was in it. For me, Iv'e just never really got my kicks out of seeing plastic looking women naked in a magazine. I much prefer seeing a woman naked in real life.

I agree. I haven't seen a Playboy magazine since I was a teenager. What I do feel distressed about, is that print media is crashing and burning. Like Playboy or hate it, it is sort've an American institution. |

It's sad but these days you can see skin in "regular" magazines as well; sometimes whether you want to or not. Just check out the ads! That is surprising news about Playboy, though. Years ago when my husband was in the hospital (we were dating then), some friends of ours from CHURCH no less, brought him a Playboy magazine and when I saw him reading it, he told me that he was just reading it for the articles!
Um, yeah, right!!!! ![]() My dad used to read this magazine all the time back in the 70's and it's sad to say that I know he wasn't reading it for the articles! |

For me it all started when TV Guide changed formats and size....it was a lifelong weekly passion to go through the digest size magazine scroll listings, see the network ads, etc...then they went to total grid form, dropped 24 hour listings and the network ads seem to vanish.....I gave up the magazine and it still is kinda sad for me....as for Playboy, I am in the majority of posters, don't really enjoy pictures, would rather spend that leisure time in the pursuit of a real woman....I think Playboy is really for the long time married guy that needs to see another naked woman, and sometimes the sex fades after a long marriage.......but I have a gag gift subscription from a friend when a relationship ended and have noticed in recent months, like all magazines and newspapers, they are all getting much thinner.

Yeah same here. I also have to say that Hugh does present himself as a gentleman, but I dont think there is much difference between him and Larry Flynt. |
