Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth have signed on as the leads of tuner "The Addams Family," which has nailed down an April opening on Broadway.
Lane and Neuwirth, who have appeared in developmental readings of "Addams," play spooky spouses Gomez and Morticia in the tuner. Family also will include Jackie Hoffman ("Hairspray") as Grandmama, Kevin Chamberlin ("Seussical") as Uncle Fester, and Krysta Rodriguez ("Spring Awakening") as daughter Wednesday.

Plot centers on the waves made in the titular macabre family when Goth kid Wednesday falls in love with a nice young man, played by Wesley Taylor ("Rock of Ages"). Terrence Mann and Carolee Carmello play the boy's parents.

Cast also includes Zachary James ("South Pacific") as Lurch and Adam Riegler ("Shrek the Musical") as young Pugsley.

"Addams" has book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice ("Jersey Boys") and songs by Andrew Lippa ("The Wild Party"). Improbable Theater's Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch ("Shockheaded Peter") both will design and direct, with Sergio Trujillo choreographing.

Show's out-of-town tryout begins perfs at Chicago's Oriental Theater in the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Nov. 13.

On Broadway, "Addams" begins perfs March 4 ahead of an April 8 opening at a Nederlander theater to be determined.

Stuart Oken, Roy Furman, Michael Leavitt and Five Cent Prods. produce "Addams" by special arrangement with Elephant Eye Theatrical.

I never thought of the Adams Family as a musical, but I'd go see it. I bet it will be great and the opening song is sure to be a hit if they stick with the original theme song from the show!

This would be good as a movie, hope they bring it to the big screen with the current cast.
