Thumbs up Movie Reviews: "Next Day Air"

Movie Reviews: Next Day Air
8 May 2009 2:32 AM, PDT

Next Day Air might have been simply a funny film if it hadn't been so bloody violent, several reviewers say.

"The humor is there, but violence brings the laughter to an abrupt halt," writes Claudia Puig in USA Today.

Several critics compare it to a Quentin Tarantino movie, but Peter Hartlaub in the San Francisco Chronicle says that the violence in this one amounts to "a bit of a buzz-kill, running counter to the strict stoner comedy vibe in the rest of the movie."

Nevertheless, the movie receives some heavy applause from a number of critics.

Nathan Lee writes in the Philadelphia Daily News: "It's hard to make a movie that ends with blazing guns and dead bodies and still send the audience away laughing, but Next Day Air finds the right drive-in movie tone."

Comments Nathan Lee in the New York Times: "With a script that snaps, characters that pop, a blaze of streetwise attitude and enough firepower to pulverize a significant chunk of South Philadelphia, Next Day Air nears neo-blaxploitation perfection."

I was gonna wait for this to come to video but my brother wants to see it. So he asked me if i would see it with him and i said yeah. We're gonna see it today but it looks stupid to me. Wood Harris who's in it is always playing a criminal in most of his movies. Only characters i've seen him play different is in Hendrix movie about rock star Jimi Hendrix, Remember The Titans with Denzel Washington and Rhapsody movie with LisaRaye and Gina Ravera. Mos Def who's also in it is a rapper also but some of his movies are better than his rap albums hahahahahahahahahahaha. He's a good rapper but i don't like his albums because of the beats. I've only heard his first album and i didn't like it.

I think this movie looks "alright". Not something I'd go out of the way to the theater to see.

Just saw this today. It's very good, much better than how I thought it was going to be.

I'm surprised you posted about this because you don't post about black ghetto movies like Next Day Air LOL. I think it's alright. Nothing special. Black dude Omari Hardwick who's in it as a drug dealer plays on Dark Blue tv show with Dylan McDermott as Dylan's undercover cop partner. I like Omari. He's a good actor. He was a bad guy in Cuba Gooding Jr's Linewatch movie. You should check that out JamesG if you haven't seen it.

Yeah, he's good. Omari was also in Kick-Ass and he's in The A-Team movie coming out soon.

JamesG, have you seen Cuba's Linewatch movie? That's a good action flick. Omari is in The A Team movie? I'm gonna see that next weekend. He's also in Spike Lee's war movie Miracle At St Anna.

Omari is 'Chopshop Jay' in The A-Team.

I saw A-Team last night and he's not really in the movie that much. He has about a minute of screen-time in the very beginning.

Miracle at St. Anna was a good movie. It's known for its controversy a lot more than the film itself.
