Where did Al go - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I have just watched the episode where Al marries Chachi's mum, and then in the next episode he has gone, as has Joanie and Chachi. Where did they go? And why don't they explain it in the storyline, instead of them just disappearing?

Al, Louisa, Chachi, and Joanie went to Chicago in the spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi. Some things on Happy Days they just didn't explain - like the disappearance of Chuck Cunningham or create an episode when Richie joins the Army. There may be different reasons why they didn't explain or air each of these insidents, but I feel that they didn't want to add the explanation or insidents to the (already written) scripts which would take away from the story line. (Just my opinion)
