Default Ann Marie's hair

Why the change of hairstyle in the last season? Also
was she wearing a wig in season 4....that flip looked too perfect.

Because, the "Flip" hair style was considered to be dated by 1970; hence, the reason why you see Marlo Thomas with more relaxed locks; as fair if she is wearing a wig or not. I am pretty sure she is wearing a hair piece; parts of her hair look real, while there are other sections of her head, that it is pretty apparent that is not authentic hair (which was pretty much the norm in the 1960's and early 1970's)...

Gosh, how many cans of hairspray do you think Marlo Thomas went through during the entire run of That Girl??

Up till the 4th season, A LOT; but, then again, that was the style in the 1960's; actually, once the 1970's arrived, hairspray almost went out of business till the 1980's, then it was very, very popular again. Aqua Net, anyone?

The Deal with her Hair.
This is from the 1999 companion book, "That Book about That Girl" written by Stephen Cole.

There was a change in Marlo Thomas' hair. That flip hairstyles was her own hair in the first season. Then after the first year, she didn't want to have bangs anymore so she let them grow out. But Clairol (the sponsor) thought otherwise so she had to wear a BANGS WIG! She did it so in real life she would allow her hair to grow out and still wear bangs on the show. It wasn't until the last season when she done away with that old hairstyle and got the straight hair (which I thought looked great).

Thanks all for the help. I had a gut feeling that some of that hair wasn't real.

Marlo Thomas and Mary Tyler Moore had such amazing flip styles at times, I mean you could hang clothes on their hair!

Mary Tyler Moore totally rocked the flip on her TV show. Love the way
it bounces when she walks.

I rewatched the first couple episodes of Season 1 and Marlo's hair does
look thin to barely hold a flip. Thank god for the hairpieces later on in the seasons.
