This case has always bothered me. I just watched it again. I know Gibson served three years in prison for the "murder" of his son despite the body never being found, but something stinks about this case so badly.
First off, I have never believed that Gibson accidentally shot his son Tommy and then disposed of the body to cover it up. But I do without a doubt believe he is involved in some way shape or form. His daughter and neighbours story makes no sense. We all know his daughter later confessed that she saw her father beat Tommy up and dispose of his body so that takes away from her earlier testimony that a scruffy man took her brother. I dont think the daughter is telling the truth about any of that to be honest. I don't think she saw anything IMO. I also don't think that Larry accidentally shot Tommy and then put him in the back of his squad car. For starters there would be traces of blood in the trunk and there would be traces of blood on their front yard. Even with a blue-ray (sorry I don't know the proper name of it) they would even find blood after it was washed away. So I know this case has been beaten to death but I feel Larry had something to do with the disapearrance of his son Tommy. |

Well, Larry's daughter suddenly came up with that story while Larry and his wife, the mother of his children, were separated and going through a nasty divorce. In my opinion Larry's now ex-wife coached their daughter to make up that story about her dad. I cannot remember how old the daughter was when this happened, I want to say 4 or 5 years old when Tommy 'disappeared' so she would have been 7 or 8 when she suddenly came up with this story about her father beating Tommy to death.
Larry actually served 18 months in prison. It was largely off of his daughters testimony that Larry was even indicted at all. He was acquitted of the murder charges and was convicted of the much lesser charge of 2nd degree manslaughter, basically the equivalent of involuntary manslaughter which tells me the jury did not believe the daughter's testimony either as he was basically convicted of the lowest charge available among all the lesser included charges besides the murder charge. Larry was sentenced to 3 years in prison but was released after serving half his sentence, 18 months, for good behavior. |

Okay yes that's true we all know what happened to him but my thought is most of us won't believe what the daughter said. Most of us don't believe Larry either. So the best theory is the accidental shooting. But this is my question. Why was there no blood found in the back of Larry's trunk? Tommy's blood would have leaked even if he were wrapped in a blanket. Wouldnt a special light that detects blood be able to find traces even after it was cleaned up?
Or even on the lawn. If Tommy is shot there is certainly blood on the front lawn where he is playing. They'd find it you would think. Look, I don't like Larry Gibson's demeanour. No one does. He seems cold, emotionless, and other things I cannot put my finger on. But is it possible that none of these theories we have come up with are true? Could there be another cause for Tommy's disappearance. The lack of blood really bothers me in this case, you would think they would find it |

Consider Larry Gibson's profession at the time. If his own agency were the first to investigate him, perhaps they were concentrating on finding evidence of his supposed innoncence far more deeply than his supposed guilt. Then the patrol car basically becomes Judy Hyams' rental car Part II. A larger investigation ensures, and it's handled by other people and agencies. Whatever evidence exists (if applicable) is either ruined by poor testing, corruption, or simply the passage of time. Luminol doesn't always pick up everything. And even if it does, it needs honest verification. Wasn't Larry gone for a relatively long period of time? That would give him an opportunity to clean the trunk. One would assume he was more than well acquainted with police investigatory procedure. Fresh blood on a lawn could be easy to mask and/or clean up, I would imagine, especially if no one's really paying attention to it at the time. I am wary of the notion that Larry shot his son, too. But I really feel he killed his son. |

Although one thing does bother me still. He passed a polygraph. I don't see Larry as a likeable guy. He doesnt strike me as a guy that people would go through a brick wall for so there isnt a reason the authorities would cover for him. Of course as a cop he has insight on how to beat a polygraph, and maybe he is sick enough that he's a sociopath and those types of people show NO emotion and could easily pass a polygraph. But man how in the world could you pass that? Observe: "Larry did you kill your son Tommy?" "No" How in the world would your emotions on the inside not be going haywire even if you are psycho? I don't know but the polygraph thing bugs me. Can we count on a deathbed confession from him? |

As a cop, could he have made some enemies with the wrong people? Could it have been a kidnapping for revenge? That being said, what could make Larry suspicious is that he knows about this all along and does nothing. If we're wrong about Larry, all I can say is that we all owe him a HUGE apology. But nothing points to him being innocent IMO |

The reason I am against the "limp" theory is that for starters the light sentence he got makes me believe that the prosecutors had doubts as well. Secondly, if this were true and he's going to jail anyways, why not just tell where the body is? You're done as it is. In fact they might be easier on you if you co-operate. Who knows? But Larry said nothing, not while he was in jail and not even today. He still "believes" his son is missing and technically Tommy still is missing. He knows something, I just don't know what yet. |
