Default Adrienne Barbeau Talking About Bea Arthur

Did anyone else catch Adrienne Barbeau speaking about Bea Arthur's passing on Entertainment Tonight? It was very moving and it was obvious how sad Adrienne was upon hearing the news of Bea's passing. She spoke about how close they were, playing mother and daughter on Maude and what an incredible person Bea was in real life. She broke down several times during the interview, and they did show some clips of the two of them from the show. It was great to see Adrienne again (she looks fantastic), and it was wonderful to hear how much she loved and cherished her relationship with Bea, one of the true greats. No one will ever replace you, Bea...

Adrienne Barbeau comes only to ET to talk to Mary Hart about the death of her TV mom, Beatrice Arthur.

For six seasons (1972-1978), Bea and Adrienne played one of TV's most popular mother and daughters on the controversial Norman Lear series, "Maude," but they were far more than co-stars.

"I loved her dearly and I think she loved me," Adrienne tells Mary.

Though she is grieving, Adrienne watched a clip of an interview ET did years back with Bea and through her sadness was still able to smile.

Adrienne knew that Bea was battling cancer, but she prayed that the Emmy Award-winning actress would win her fight.

"I actually had been out with my kids and I came home and there was a message on the machine from a news broadcasting service, asking me if I would come and talk to them about Bea," she recalls. "So that's how I found out. It was a shock."

According to Adrienne, Bea was a very private person, preferring to spend time with her family and her dogs. In fact, Adrienne hazards a guess that she would probably be bothered by all the attention her passing has incurred.

"She wasn't interested in the notoriety," Adrienne tells Mary. "She wasn't interested in celebrity. She was interested in making people laugh and doing good work."

There will be no memorial service for Bea, at her request, but her TV daughter leaves us with these words: "Nobody's going to forget Bea Arthur. Nobody will forget. She will go on forever."

Cool

Thanks for posting the link Charles. That was a very nice and very genuine tribute by Adrienne.

I haven't. Wasn't Bill Macy in an episode of Back To You?

Yes he was. He played Montana's assistant that Marsh suggests and he turns out to be terribly slow and falls asleep on the job but they feel too bad to fire him.

It was a great guest spot!

Thanks Zoneboy!

What I find peculiar is that Adrienne said she knew about Bea's cancer, but Rue and Betty didn't find out about it until the day before she died.

I wonder why Bea chose to tell Adrienne before Rue and Betty - or did she mean to tell Adrienne at all?

She was paid by ET to do the interview!
And Mary Hart really came off as a big phony pretending that she really cares! All she cared about was getting that exclusive interview!
Only in Hollywood kids...
