It is funny their headline said Bea Never Cared for Betty, but it didn't say she hated her and had a big off screen feud with her.
I think sometimes especially with TV shows, the audience thinks or wants to think the cast is all friends and that is not always the case. I used to have several co-workers in the office I worked in and I only socialized with a few outside of work. It wasn't that I didn't like or hated the others, we were just different people and I didn't relate to them. I think that is the case with Bea and Betty. They are different people and while the Golden Girls portrayed the ladies as close like a family on the show, that is not necessarily the way it was in real life. |

It always made me sad to think that Bea and Betty weren't the best of friends. It sort of breaks the illusion. I'm sure, however, that there was always mutual respect between them...

yeah i wish they got along better, but even rose and dorothy are always at ends with each other, it was just that they had completely different personalities both off and on screen

I once heard at a performance of Bea's one woman show, Estelle and Betty were in the audience, and Bea acknowledged her former co-star Estelle, and completely shunned Betty, who was stunned and hurt by this. I hope this didn't happen I can't believe Bea would be that insensitive.

I've heard some interesting stories about Bea's hatred towards Betty, and never really believed them...
I don't think that Bea hated Betty, but that they just weren't good friends. Although it's seems odd because they are so close in the show, that's just the way it is... We will never know the real answer though, Bea took it to the grave and Betty would be to classy to reveal that type of information if it were true. |

I recall reading somewhere that Betty addressed this in one of her books at one time, but not sure which book (she has written a few).
