Paul Perschmann, better known as “Playboy” Buddy Rose, passed away on Tuesday, April 28. He was found dead in his home in Portland, Oregon by his wife. No official report on the cause of death, though it is being said that he was suffering recently from blood sugar issues involving diabetes. Buddy Rose was one of the legendary figures of the old Portland Wrestling under Don Owen alongside Roddy Piper. Rose also had a successful run in the AWA teaming with “Pretty Boy” Dug Somers under the management of Sherri Martel. The duo won the Tag Titles and engaged in a high-profile bloody feud with The Midnight Rockers of Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels. He also had brief runs in the WWF including wrestling the very first WrestleMania match under the guise of The Executioner against Tito Santana. Rose ran a wrestling school “Colonel DeBeers” Ed Wiskoski in Portland, one of the few operating in the area, until it closed recently. Both were also honored in 2004 by the Cauliflower Alley Club. |
