Default SO's Existence

How much longer in years do you HONESTLY think Sitcoms Online, the forum, will be around for? I just wanna hear people's thoughts on how it's running, in general, compared to before, predictions etc. and if it can run as a website for a long time?

i think chit chat/politics/sports/current tv shows etc. will always be active but as far as classic shows go quite a few boards are dead. the only time i see activity on the boards of my fav. shows is either because a new season is being released on dvd or a series star has died.

however, so has a great community here and i think they would do everything possible to keep the site going before they'd let it fall into a perilous nosedive.

I agree... the chit-chat section will probably be active for a longer time than the different sitcoms sections. When I first got here, I looked at some of my favorite sitcoms' boards... and they were dead. But, I came over to chit-chat... and never left! And yes, I will continue to post whenever I can... though it is strange, another board I am a member of used to be so active, now... I don't know what happened... I hardly post there anymore... it's weird how it just randomly occurs.

i think the reason so has not suffered the same fate you mention is because it has impeccable administrators/moderators always on their toes keeping things current and active where other forums lack that aspect. for instance, i think if imdb had a stronger administrator/moderator presence their boards wouldn't be in the condition they're in.

I hope it stays around for a few more years. I really wish I would have found SO sooner. But I love the chit-chat boards, general sitcoms boards, Unsolved Mysteries boards.

I have noticed the same thing about the classic show boards. The shows that are rerun on syndication and cable do have somewhat active boards here. There are a lot of shows that haven't been on cable or syndication in years and the boards here for those shows have no activity.

Hopefully this place will be around for a long time. To the administrations please keep the classic TV forums going. True there are some spots there(like on the 1950's sitcom) that there is not much posting. Thats only because some people have not seen those shows in years or at all. Thats because of TV and not anyone here.

That is my plea.

I hope SO stays around for a long time. I don't see it ending in the near future (I hope I'm right.) Hopefully it will still be here, in say, five years, and even longer than that.

I think SO will be around forever. Maybe some of the show boards don't get as much traffic as they used to (which can change when a DVD is announced) but Chit Chat will always be up and about. Chit Chat is like a community and I think we all stop in to see each other more than anything else. It's that sense of community that keeps people coming back.

exactly. if everyone here were to leave all at once and a whole new set of members were to come in, i would probably stop posting out of lack of interest. who knows how long this board will be up and running, but i'm sure if it were to shut down, we'd all take our community somewhere else. i guess it could be up forever though. we're still kind of in the first generation of the internet with the way it is now, so it's interesting to think of the future of it. it would be neat if people a hundred years from now could look back at the things we posted today.

I like posting the imdb boards but there isn't really a community vibe there at all. You can't have avatars on your profile and there is no quoting features on their boards.

i joined this 3 years ago at first to discuss tv, although afterwards i did post more frequently in the chit chat board and i still do. for as long as this site is still running i am not going to stop visiting it altogether. i love the community here- everyone is so welcoming and being a brit myself i do like US popular culture and tv shows especially. i agree about IMDB, and may i add ABC.com too- the problem with their boards is that you'll find idiots posting rude and silly questions and messages. which is why i stopped visiting there for good. the moderators despite deleting some of the obscene content, leave some of them on the boards that i feel disgusted when i read them. things such as 'so and so is a *****', is (insert celebrity name here) gay or married?' and people going on other boards to trash a show just annoy me that i don't bother replying to them. like who frigging cares. yet, thank goodness for SO- one of the very few forums that i trust and enjoy visiting .

SO goes through cycles as some members come and go. I think the boards are pretty active right now. Maybe it's not as active as it was back in 2003 and 2004 but things change. Certain sitcom boards have always had more posts than others. I think that has more to do with a show being shown on TV or not. It's hard to discuss tv shows that aren't seen. I think that's why a lot of the 1950's boards are dead. I think SO can go on for many years to come though. There is always new fans out there that are just getting into a particular show and it's always interesting to read what they think about it.
