Default Hurt Feelings: Does It Worry YOU?

Do you ever feel bad saying something negative about a show, a movie, a musical group because you were afraid to hurt somone else's feelings. An example would be Bewitched which is a personal favorite of Monika's and quite a few other people here. However, I hate that show. The episodes I have seen have been idiotic with awful acting. However, everytime I make a negative comment about the show or other shows, I feel bad that I might hurt someone's feelings. Anyone else feel this way?

I think it is okay to say you don't care for a show or an actor and no one will get their feelings hurt. I do think it is plain rude to go to a show site simply to bash a show or the actors (and I have seen that happen.) I actually like Bewitched. I think it is a cute show, not my favorite, but okay. I doubt anyone here would be hurt that you don't care for it. But if you went to the Bewitched board and starting making threads about how much you hate it or replied to others posts with rude or hateful comments, they would probably get hurt. (Of course I know you wouldn't do that!)

The only time I feel uneasy about posting, or worry that I will hurt someone's feelings are when people post things in ChitChat asking for advice or debating topics. I get scared of upsetting someone or having others lash out at me for my opinions. That's why I stay away from here most of the time. Don't know what made me actually reply to this...I guess I am getting brave!

To each his own - is what I say. Agree to disagree, as long as you are not insulting about it. Everyone has their own tastes.

Sometimes when I post in Chit Chat I worry about hurting someone or maybe making someone angry. Though I usually go ahead and post anyway.

I've seen you write something about agreeing to disagree before. Oh yeah, about American Beauty.

Yes - I hated American Beauty, but I know a bunch of other people who loved it. I could never see the appeal, but oh well.

I've always liked Bewitched. I grew up with it. It doesn't bother me if anyone doesn't like what I like. Everybody's different and has different tastes. It does bother me if I'm posting on a tv board and someone just comes over there to hate on a show though. Other than that...to each his own as Monika said.

Wow, wouldn't the world be a boring place if everyone liked the same thing!!!

Personally, if someone mentioned that they did not care for a certain show or whatever, that I liked; no, I would not be offended; actually, I prefer having a unique taste for a certain subject (i.e., a television show, movie, book, etc.); in other words, I enjoy being a nonconformist

I hear ya. There are some people here that are so "protective" of their favorite shows/movies/performers/whatever they are really crazy about that they have the attitude of "you insult them - you are also insulting me". There are also some people, however, who do go overboard with their comments/criticisms that they invite people's wrath. Both are wrong attitudes to have, but people are people and it takes all kinds to make this world go.

As for myself, I've heard people say that my Howdy avatar looks "scary" at times. It doesn't bother me in the least - because I realize two things:

1. That a lot of my SO friends were born AFTER 1960 and, as a result, know nothing (or very little) about Howdy, which I respect.

AND

2. Not everyone is into everything that everyone else is into. You should never EVER be chastised for stating your opinion. Remember - one fan's 'sweet and cute' is another's 'ugly'. It's all a matter of personal opinion and taste.

You are a person after my own heart. I also love the joy of not doing/being/existing for society's aspirations.

I hope we DEFINITELY become friends.

I have had a number of people tell me they don't like Star Trek. As long as they say so nicely, I don't have a problem with it at all. Everyone has different tastes.

I find myself that whenever I express an opinion here or somewhere I make it a point to be respectful in expressing it for that very same reason.

Just walk up to your average Metallica fan and tell them that the band sucks and is nothing but noise. They act like you just insulted their mother.

I was thinking about something similar on my way to work. What is it in a person's brain that makes one person love a show and another hate it? Or why does one person think an actor is terrible and the other person loves them? No scientist will probably ever figure it out, but I wonder about it.

I always liked I Dream of Jeannie much better than Bewitched, but it's like, why? What is it about the characters or plots that I find more endearing than those on Bewitched?

Oh well...anyway, no, because I like odd things anyway, so I'm more on the receiving end than the bashing end. I think "Sweet Child 'o Mine" is one of the WORST songs ever created and performed, but oh well if it's your favorite. I don't like it and if you can't handle it, you need to toughen up a bit.
