TV Land Inhabitants Are Up for Film Versions of Classic Shows

Tim Allen can envision a movie version of Home Improvement.
"We always talk about if that would ever happen," Allen said from the red carpet Sunday at the 2009 TV Land Awards. "It's literally what would this look like if this were in present day? And I don't think things would happen the way you want them to. All these boys would grow up. One kid would get in trouble and one wouldn't be. Sex and the City had a sweetness and a realness to it, better than a guy would expect it to be. And I think we could do the same thing. There was an element of reality to this show that I miss every day."

Like Allen, many stars of classic TV shows chatted up TV-to-movie possibilities, and pondered the fate of their characters in a modern-day, big-screen version of their beloved shows.

Tom Selleck said that if he got the call for a movie version, he would jump at the chance ("Magnum is still alive, I can tell you that!"). The Magnum, P.I. cast took home the Hero Award.

"I'm very proud of Magnum," he said. "It's passed the test of time. And it's in about 100 countries now."

Selleck, who joked that his signature mustache won't be cut for at least another few months because he's shooting a movie with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher, said that he hasn't noticed Kutcher off set glued to his cellphone, Twittering. Selleck also was shocked to hear that Kutcher beat CNN in his quest to be the first Twitterer to have a million followers.

"I think it's stupid and he's wasting his time," he said. "No, no, I can't wait to see him in a week; I'll give him a big hug."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who was awarded the Lucille Ball Legacy of Laughter Award, joked about what her character Elaine from Seinfeld would be up to now, should they do a big-screen version of the film.

"Oh, she'd be just getting out of prison now, I'd imagine," she laughed.

Katey Sagal, who starred alongside Ed O'Neill, David Faustino and Christina Applegate in Married With Children, said she'd love to see the show move to the big screen.

"Peggy Bundy would probably be doing the same thing she was always doing — not much — and enjoying it," laughed Sagal. "She loved her life. She was really a character."

Actress Vivica A. Fox, who is hosting TV Land's reality series The Cougar, says that she'd love to see Living Single come to the big screen.

"It would be fabulous to do that show, especially if I could do it with Queen Latifah. Actually, if I could do that movie with my girls from Set It Off, girl, we'd be setting it off and living single," she laughed.

Fox, 44, said she loves the reception The Cougar has received. "I really thought that I was going to have to defend the show. I didn't know if America was ready to embrace a show about older women dating younger men," she said. "I must admit, I got blew up this week by the young guys, but I'm not trying to have anybody's mama to come after me, though. My preference is 28 and older. I need them to have a bank account!"

I think home inprovment moive would be good idea. i wouldn't knewwhat it would be about. maybe after they moveed bud come back and offers tim a whole bunch of money to come back to tool time. they have to decied if they stay with jill job or tims job . i would like to see quatam leap moive. i didn't like the ending much. i heard sicif channel was going to make a moive of quatam leap. i hadn't heard anything about it. that wass couple years ago
