Default Another Shocker Today; Brad Lidge of Philly Blows his 47 Consec. Save Streak

He just didn't have tit tonight vs the Padres and could be the losing pitcher as well...but he holds a record that is hard to break, the consecutive saves record held by Dodgers pitcher Eric Gagne at 84, while Tom Gordon, former Phillie as well, is second with 54 consec. from a few years ago....Lidge is 3rd on the all time list respectively, with 47 consecutive saves, not including this past postseason..

Godd*mn padres are killing us these 2 games lol...it's been a tough, emotional 2 games though, to try to win is one thing, to try and play after losing our voice is another so I don't feel any remorse for our players for not winning either game, although it would of been nice to.

I agree. But it's fair to say it's early too. I wouldn't be surprised if they won 60-80 games respectively this year. I remember the Reds in the early 2000s, for the last few years, would have a great first half, or first 50 games each of these respective years, but would only end up winning 73-75 games. So a lot of times, it's a lot about the final product or how you finish the season, not how you start it. But then again, a good team that's in the hunt at the end, or in a pennant race could lose because of a slow start. So it works both ways.

I'm amazed that this was his first.

Initially, I thought this was a recipe for disaster:

Lidge was shaky during his later years in Houston

Citizens Bank is a pitcher's nightmare- offensive-friendly stadium

lol yeah that's true, but we'll just have to wait and see I guess. A lot of good teams have been eh the first week, so we all shouldn't panic just yet haha.

You make it the new Yankees Stadium yet Brian? Silly question because the prices are outrageous.

IIRC, the Phillies got off to a horrendous start in April 2007.

There were calls for Manuel to be fired.

That never transpired, and Philly took off from there.

How good or bad a team plays in April doesn't matter- it's six months before postseason play.

I agree with you Chris....but they can't go 9-17 either. They have to be close. Like I said, a few loses in April could affect your outcome in a playoff fiunt in September/October...

I still can't believe this.

But it does make me nervous because we are using so much pitchers and I hope it doesn't bite us in the ass in July or August. Heck, now it's a race in the NL West.

I like your mindset with this. Let's see where San Diego goes from here, in the season.
