Default Does anybody else remember this mystery? (Please read carefully!)

I know it aired on Unsolved Mysteries between 1994 and 1996. This was about a romantic couple (possibly teenagers; probably dating) sitting in a parked car one night. This was out in the country, probably in some dirt lot or forest or something.

(No, this is not the Zodiac Killer or Son of Sam case--completely different.)

Then this person (probably a guy) drives up, either on a motorcycle or in a car, then walks toward the car where the guy and girl are sitting. The killer then shot through the windshield of the car, and I think he killed both of them.

I'm pretty sure this was an Unexplained Death or something, perhaps because some time later their bodies were found sitting in the car. I figure they saw the bullet holes in the windshield and tire tracks left behind by the killer's vehicle. To my knowledge, no one else was around at the time of the shooting, and so there were no real witnesses to the crime.

Does anyone remember that case at all? If so--

--What were the victims' names?
--When and where did this happen? and
--What do the investigators say happened?

If anyone remembers that mystery, would you also know the date that Unsolved Mysteries broadcast this case? I distinctly remember parts of it, and it has been bugging me for over ten years.

I'm not sure if anyone but me remembers it, or if it was even on Unsolved Mysteries at all. I would greatly appreciate anyone's help!

sounds like the Andy Cook case, where he fled driving a blue Honda CRX. He was eventually arrested. Pretty sure this happened in the deep south, Georgia or Alabama.

I agree with wiseguy. That's the first case that I thought of when I read the discription.

They were college students, I think. She had dark hair... I need to go look it up.

edit: thor's wikia site says that it aired on September 27, 1996, but has some weird info, like Andy Cook was driving a blue honda CRX motorcycle. That's impossible. It's either a motorcycle or CRX automobile. The reenactment showed a car. http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Andy_Cook
Off to look up more info...

edit: Grant Hendricks and his girlfriend Michelle were murdered by Andrew Cook at Lake Juliet in Georgia on 1/3/1995

I was thinking the same case.

I know for sure it was a CRX (the car) because I've seen even more than just the UM about this case. i never remember the name right away but as soon as I see that car I know which case they are talking about. I saw it on one of those Dateline type shows and one of those A&E/TruTV shows.

His name was Grant Hendrickson. His girlfriend's name was Michele Cartagena.

Thanks for the info, guys! If you have any more, please keep it coming.

You wouldn't happen to know if anyone has a video of that case anywhere, would you? Just to make sure that is what I saw years ago.

OOPS! Thanks for fixing that incorrect spelling of Grant's last name.

What I thought was weird... On every site where I found info, none had Michelle's last name. All of them said "Grant Hendrickson and his girlfriend Michelle".

I wonder why no one ever thought that she needed to be identifited by her last name, too?

FYI, I edited Thor's wikia site to reflect this info.

I deleted all of the motorcyle references, corrected the spelling of Hendrickson, and added Michelle's last name.

Michele was a good friend of mine, and it is "Michele with one L" as she always used to say.

Grant was a good friend of my husband's from at least middle school and on. Grant played bass in a band with my husband also. I never remember hearing a person say an ugly word about him. He had so much potential, just as Michele did.
This thread is so old and I might have missed it if someone gave this info already but the murders happened at Lake Juliette not far from Macon, GA. It was at a place called the Point where there was a peninsula that jutted out over the lake. Cook shot Grant in the shoulder and back. Then he shot him in the head. It makes me sick to even talk about it and I won't go into details about Michele's injuries since I didn't know her. The rumors were horrendous and greatly exaggerated for a long time. My husband and I drive on a highway to my family's cottage and it passes by a place near Lake Juliette where you can see The Point. I don't think we've ever driven by there without looking and thinking about them. He was 22 and, like Michele, an only child. Andrew Cook finally was executed last February. About damned time...

Mvms, thanks so much for taking the time to come and share that information with us. It truly is a very sad case.

I do remember seeing this episode of UM before the killer was caught. I've since seen it in a different true crime show after he was caught. It was one of the older shows. IIRC the killers father was in the FBI or some other type of agency.
