Fortunately I never have been, but I probably should have been a few times during my teenage years. I was however taken away by the cops in handcuffs before, but they just took me to the mental hospital. My mom's boyfriend did 7 years in prison, and some of the stories he has told me are absolutely frightening. It's amazing the stuff that goes on in their, especially in regards to people retaliating against each other for one thing or another. I won't tell the stories here, because they're pretty gruesome, but one things for sure, I'm never going to prison!! Anyway, for those who are comfortable talking about it, have you ever been to jail or prison. If so, what was it like, and how did it change you?

Never have, never will!!
I have had a couple of friends who've been to jail though back when I was a teenager. One was a boyfriend of my best girlfriend. He was put in the Don Jail in Toronto (a really old, bastillian looking horrible place). We went to visit him one Saturday and I got so freaked out just in the visitors' waiting area that I had to go and get physically sick to my stomach in the public restroom. Another time we visited him in another detention centre which was modern and it wasn't as bad. I think the older place creeped me out because it reminded me of "Alcatraz" or something. |

My encounters with law enforcement have been quite pleasent. I've only ever been escorted once for wandering off in town as a teenager, stopped when I was learning how to drive on my permit and I found the police quite helpful when I got in a car wreck a few years ago.

It's good to see that none of you have been in any real trouble with the law. My brother spent a night in jail after getting his second DUI. He said it was a crazy experience, because he was put into a holding cell with a bunch of crazy people who were high on drugs. He also ended up losing his license for two years, and since his job for Nabisco involved driving, he was forced to quit. He learned the hard way about the price you pay for drinking and driving.

I've been pulled over only once when I was 18, the first time I went to my college town to take my GED. But otherwise, no problems at all. My illustrous uncle has been to jail more times than I can count, has had several DUI's, and had his license suspended. He hit a police car one time when he was drunk. He still hasn't learned his lesson and I don't think he ever will.
Surprised he hasn't killed someone from drunk driving yet.

Nope, but I got two warnings from the cops for speeding. But I HAVE been in the back of a police car once.
Once on the way to work, I ran out of gas (I was sure I had enough to get me to work and fill up afterwards) and it just so happened a police car was driving my way. I waved him down, explained the situation and he gave me a ride to the gas station about a mile down the road. I filled up my little gas can and the policeman drove me back to where I'd pulled over. God bless him, he even insisted on putting the gas in my car himself. Then I thanked him and drove myself back to the gas station to fill up the whole tank. Trust me, the backseats of police cars are NOT comfortable (for good reason, obviously)!! They are hard plastic, not cushioned at all. Just one more reason to stay on the right side of the law!!
