Default Who reran it in NYC?

Unlike other sitcoms, I cannot associate TMTMS immediately with one of our local channels (WPIX-11, [W]WOR-9, WNEW/WNYW-5). I have vague memories of it being on our NBC channel, WNBC-4, though. Am I remembering that right? Or was it seen somewhere else? Or did it switch channels?

I could be wrong but I have a great memory for these type of things, you are absolutely correct about Mary being on WNBC/Channel 4 in NYC, it ran at 4PM, I also believe it eventually ran in the middle of the night at around 2:30AM or 3AM....I don't ever remember it being run on any of the independent locals in the NY area. I know around the same time The Flying Nun & Here's Lucy ran at 4PM on WNBC as well....Those were the days!!!!!!!

I also vaguely remember getting it from WTAF/Channel 29 Philadelphia on cable during those wonderful early days when cable gave you distant signals before the FCC Law "Syndex" was inacted because local's complained their syndicated shows were being devalued by being imported into markets where they bought exclusive rights.....it started because "Mash" being the hot new syndicated show at the time was literally being seen on WNEW/NY, WTAF/PA & WSBK/Boston all in the NY area giving it around 6 showings a day! Funny... now with national cable networks the same thing happens with Mash being on several nationals and the locals don't run any syndicated sitcoms!

Thought so...I also think Rhoda was on Ch. 11 at one point? And WKRP on Ch. 5? Might be fun to track the NY rerun locations of more of the MTM shows...as I indeed remembering many of them in reruns on cable rather than local!

Yep I remember having 29...always thought of it as a merging of 5 and 11.

And while we're on the topic, do you remember What's Happening!! reruns on Ch. 29? I ask because of an urban legend among us closing logo fans...that WH!!! reruns had a version of the "sunburst" Columbia Pictures Television logo that included a byline for Coca-Cola (as the current Torch Lady, well current at that time, bore). One of the 3 people who claim to have seen it said it was on WTAF WH!! airings. (Me, the second of the three, thinks I saw it most likely on WNEW airings)

Yes WKRP was on WNEW, premiering timeslot was weeknights at 6:30PM following "Three's Company", of which I still have one hour recorded in my collection from 1982 featuring Christmas themed episodes.......Rhoda did run on WPIX, can't remember the timeslot....as for WH, I do have a What Happening Now from WNEW aired Saturdays at 6 before Small Wonder....can't confirm which episodes had the "A Unit of The Coca-Cola Company" bottom tagline but I know I have tons of series that have that on it, I believe "The New Gidget" is one of them...which ran on WOR & WPIX....hope that helps.....

And just for an interesting sidenote (and maybe not) I have a 1982 WTAF/TV 29 version of "Happy Days" when it first appeared as "Happy Days Again"...........I'm sure The Fonz would give it a "thumbs up"!...lol

didn't it seem like reruns of every show, especially our favorites like the mary tyler moore show and the dick van dyke show, would somehow be in reruns on some station forever?

unfortunately, and i don't know why tvland doesn't still run some of these great shows, or why some other stations don't (although it's probably ratings/money), but a lot of them aren't on tv anymore

sure, fans of the original runs and first wave of reruns now have bought home dvds of the shows in a lot of cases, but it still seems like they should all still be on tv somewhere so generation after generation can enjoy them

i mean, tmtms and tdvds are timeless, in my view...sure some of the references are dated, but the way the people reacted with each other stands up very well to this day

Actually MTM is currently on nationally on a small cable network called American Life TV....it runs Mondays at 9PM eastern followed by Bob Newhart, WKRP & Newhart......currently DVD isn't running nationally but of course had a 3 year run on TV Land!

Agreed. Unfortunately I don't get American Life TV, but I haven't seen reruns of Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, WKRP in Cincinnati for years. I know that 'KRP has music licensing issues, but it was on Nick at Nite for several years and is missed. I didn't pick up the first season DVD because they screwed it up by taking out all the music. Bummer...

I've been into tape/DVD trading for over 12 years and have focused mostly on game shows, but lately I've been interested in getting into some other areas of "classic television".

If anyone has copies of the above mentioned shows with original commercials, I'm intersted in them...
