Default I read somewhere the reason The Golden Girls ended after 7 seasons is because

Bea Arthur did not want to continue on the show. I wonder why she didn't want to continue? I wonder if it was to have more time with her family, pursue other interests or what? All I know is I wish she had agreed to more seasons because 7 is just not enough of one of the best shows ever on TV.

I had read that she wanted to quit after season 5, but was talked into going two more years. Bea didn't want to do an 8th season, so that's why she left and the other girls went on to do the Golden Palace on CBS.

I found a radio interview with Rue McClanahan while skimming another forum some years back. Rue stated the most clarified reason for Bea leaving The Golden Girls as I had ever heard. Regretfully, I don't remember her exact reasoning. I suggest checking out www.pmpnetwork.com and locating their archive section. It is really great to hear it and Rue is just great in it! I hope you're able to locate it.

I remember reading about Bea's reason for leaving. I think it was also mentioned on a Lifetime special too.
