Exclamation Britney Spears Walks Off Stage During Concert

Problems with Britney Spears' Circus tour almost kept the show from going on in Vancouver, where the singer walked off stage during a sold-out concert.

Three songs into her performance Wednesday night, Spears left the stage while the GM Place audience sat in darkness for more than half an hour, according to the Vancouver Sun. A female voice told the booing crowd that the show was stopped because smoke was making everyone on stage uncomfortable, including Spears.

When the smoke cleared, Spears returned to finish her set, saying only "What's up, Vancouver?" during her performance of "Everytime. Closing the show with "Womanizer," she urged the audience, "Vancouver, don't smoke weed" — a remark sure to inspire rampant speculation about the source of all that smoke.

Spears' publicist said after the show that "crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue," according to The Associated Press.

Spears kicked off the Circus tour, which spans North America and England, in New Orleans on March 3. The singer's father and attorney's are looking to expand the lip-synch-fest, according to the AP.

Maybe this is where Stevie might have something on Brit. Back in the 70s when you'd go to a concert, never ONCE was one stopped because of "too much smoke"!!!!

Hell, not only would you have the smoke from mega flashpots going off, but 60% - 70% of the crowd was smoking a lot more than just cigarettes (along with cigarettes)!!!

It was part of the whole experience back then and no one seemed to even notice it.

We're really becoming a wimpy society anymore.

I think it makes sense if it was really effecting the crew above the stage. There shouldn't be any smoking in an arena type venue, anyway.

I agree, for safety and health reasons. I wouldn't go to a concert where smoking of anything was allowed. My lungs couldn't handle it. I go into coughing fits.

I didn't even know that smoking was allowed at concerts. LOL at what she said at the end though.

Smoking isn't allowed in those venues (not positive about B.C., but it's probably the same as the rest of Canada).

Again, everyone's ASSUMING it was from the audience smoking but if you reread the article closely, there was no mention of that other than Britney making that comment which doesn't necessarily mean it was happening at the time.

And frankly, who is she to say that now when it's widely known she smokes cigarettes and pot herself.

Smoke at concerts can come from a number of things and as I mentioned in my first post, mostly it's from flashpots and other pyrotechnics used for the show itself. It just could be that particular venue is structured a little differently so the smoke mostly goes back up the top of the stage. They stopped the show for a half hour to clear the smoke. That wouldn't happen if it was because of smoking from the crowd.

Cool

You're right Cathie, smoking in public buildings is illegal in British Columbia.

The article states a ventilation issue. I doubt Britney walked off the stage for no reason. If it was a smoke issue (pot or cigarettes), there's no shame in that. Even if a person smokes, that's a different story than a LOT of smoke. Some people simply can't handle it. I went to bingo with my mother years ago. The place had a cloud of smoke in the air. I had to leave. I was having trouble breathing. Little too defensive. It's a simple news story. No big deal.

I heard something interesting this afternoon on KNAC.com: the dj read the story about her walking off stage, and quoted the article saying that her
lipsync coordinator couldn't deal with it, and walked offstage (or wherever he was in front), which left her in a bind. She apparently followed suit and walked off as well.

The point the dj on the air wanted to make was, this was why he was into metal. In metal, you don't have this silliness go on, you couldn't imagine Metallica or Slayer or Priest or anyone march off the stage over such petty issues. In Vancouver, they love their ganja, the dj said, which was true, and unfortunately for Queen Britney, you are going to subject yourself to some rather unhealthy situations in order to put on a show. That's the breaks. It's rock and roll. This kind of Britney-biz never happens in metal, unless you happen to be Axl Rose (who gave up any connection to being metal ages ago).

See, the other great thing about metal is this: it's all about the MUSIC. Isn't it strange how people know and comment more about the "artist's" personal life and foibles in pop music than in metal?
