Facebook and Twitter - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just read the announcement that SitcomsOnline.com is now viewable at Facebook and Twitter. What are the benefits to that? I can view the website just fine by entering it as a URL.

I'm just very unfamiliar with Facebook and Twitter.

Twitter is more of a promotional tool to bring more people to the site. If you are already visiting the site every day, it probably wouldn't be too useful for you. It's more of a convenience thing for people who want to use it. Twitter is like having your own mini blog. You only have 140 characters to post a message.

Facebook is a place where you can learn about other members of the community. If it brings any new people to the site, it would it be a bonus.
