Jessica Simpson Dropped From Record Label! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

(April 7) - Jessica Simpson's dreams of becoming a country music star appear to be over now that her country music label has dropped her. Although her country CD, 'Do You Know,' debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country charts, Simpson was unable to sell enough records, so the Sony Nashville label sent Simpson packing, her rep confirmed to Usmagazine.com.

Earlier today, blogs were abuzz that Simpson was dropped from the label after her name was noticeably missing from both the Columbia Nashville and Sony Music Nashville websites.
Her rep says the singer is still an Epic artist and has not been dropped from the pop label. "[Jessica] is and has always been an Epic artist," her rep adds.
The news comes after Simpson struggled as an opening artist for Rascal Flatts this year, often forgetting lyrics. She was also under a lot of criticism earlier this year after she gained more publicity for her weight gain than her country album.

I agree it isn't shocking. I remember reading an interview she gave right before her country album in which she said if her record label didn't want to do another country album that she would find a way to make one on her own. She might try to take another stab at country music. After what happened on the Rascal Flatts tour I think there is a small chance she will be an opening act for a major artist or band.

Eh...there are many labels out there. I don't like country, but the clip I saw of her on some talk show wasn't terrible. Better than her pop music. Though she did sound like just about everyone else.

That's the problem with country music (and almost any other genre) today. Everything and everyone sounds the same. No variety or anything (IMHO).

I wonder what she will try next. I'd be shocked if another country label picked her up. Her singles did nothing on the radio, and it doesn't surprise me. I don't know how anyone could take her serious singing about domestic violence. I mean, at a concert she literally told the women to run away if they are in an abusive relationship...preferably in a pair of her boots. Who says that?! Not the type of thing to be making a stupid joke about. It's too bad she's the one who ended up with the song "Remember That." It actually could have meant something if someone else had recorded it.

I agree that the men pretty much sound the same on country radio, but the women do mix it up a bit. Though, the only ones that same to get played are Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift these days. Occasionally, a couple others will slip into the top 20. Jessica's music was just way too bland.

I do have to admit, I had such a fun time seeing Martina McBride in concert in 2007. I was visiting my friend Brenda and along with two other of her friends, we say MM perform at the Mid-California State Fair in Paso Robles, CA. Great show!!

That's awesome! Martina's shows are always amazing. So far I've seen her at least once a year since 2001. Though, I might not get the chance this year with her new tour starting in November.

I would be shocked too if another label picked her up. I think it is a very small chance. I don't see smaller record labels like Big Machine Records or Lyric Street picking her up. Lyric Street wouldn't because of her constants flubs as Rascal Flatts' opening act during the winter leg of their tour. The only single I heard from hers on the radio was Come On Over. I heard Remember That on a XM station once. Darius Rucker and Jewel did much better crossing over into country music that Jessica did. She even had a lot of the top writers and producers on her album.
