I just don't get how people can be so stupid. Who on Earth would leave a baby alone in a car for 1 minute, much less several hours? This lady seems to have a decent job, so I'd imagine she'd be educated enough to know that leaving a baby alone in a car for hours, is not a good idea. The stupidity of people amazes me sometimes!!! I just don't get it!!

Brad, any one of a million things might have happened - maybe this woman was runnning late for work and simply forgot to drop the baby off someplace - maybe something else was occupying her mind and the "out of sight out of mind" rule applied here (which is why I am all for small children being placed in the FRONT PASSENGER seat of a car) - but, sadly, we'll never know.

However, if that same situation happened today (April 7) in Chicago, that poor kid might have actually froze to death - we didn't get past 40 today and it was 29 degrees when I left my house this morning.

Are you serious? In those situations there are certain things that people are bound to forget but there's absolutely no excuse for a parent leaving their kid in the car regardless of how busy they are. Forgetting to lock the doors or turn off the headlights is excusable, Leaving a child in the car is not.

I can understand to some degree giving her the benefit of the doubt, but even if she did forget, that's still irresponsible of her. It's like dawsongirl basically said, it's one thing to forget your keys, but how can someone forget their own baby, for 7 hours no less, or however long it was? You'd think she would have thought about it at some point during that course of time.

The thing that gets me is that there are double standards at play here. If a person falls asleep at the wheel, and kills two people, you don't give him a pass. He has to pay for his actions. You don't hear people say: Well we should give him the benefit of the doubt because he was tired. Fact is, whether it was intentional or not, he still killed two people. I don't see much difference between the two situations. One person was irresponsible for driving under those conditions, the other person was irresponsible for maybe having too much on her mind, and forgetting her baby.

The fact of the matter is, we'll probably never know for sure the truth of what happened, because if the mother did leave the baby in the car knowingly, it's not likely that she'd admit it. She'd probably claim that she forgot, so who knows if we'll ever know the full truth.

With all that said, if this woman truly did forget her child, I do have alot of sympathy for her. Even though she acted irresponsibly by forgetting, she's still a mother whose grieving the death of her child, and I can imagine that that's got to be one of the most painful things a person can go through. So I do have sympathy for her if she did this unintentionally, I want to make that very clear.

There is absolutely ZERO EXCUSE for leaving a child unattended in a car!

No excuse, whatsoever. I don't know how a parent can forget their own child. They should be charged with cruelty, neglect, and murder.
