Cool

I think he should end his career where he started it. In the Canadian Football League!

Maybe this is his way of trying to get as much money from the NFL as he can before he is at the age when he won't be signed at all. This is what this signing is about

I agree. There have always been professional sports teams with a penchant for hiring players who are past their prime. The name recognition is simply I feel a gimmick to increase ticket sales in the short run, but in the long run does nothing to improve the team.

I don't think Jeff Garcia is a reason for more people to buy tickets-lol

Except for the fact he's a local boy! He's a northern California native so that may be worth a few ticket sales.

I know what you mean, except for what Marvo301 said--for me and those in my town he's very local; our high school played his high school. The Garcias live only two towns away from us. That's what I meant when I mentioned name recognition.

What I was talking about in my earlier post brought back an analogy from baseball. I was living in the New York area when the Mets were an expansion team. They were somehow a sad replacement for the Dodgers and Giants who'd found greener pastures out west. What the Mets owner did was to populate the roster heavily with 'over the hill greats'. It was fine PR, except that the team really sucked for a few seasons, so badly in fact, that in their first season the Mets won something like 20 games total! But they were a novelty and it seemed everyone watched them.

Now I don't think Garcia is a phenom or anything, but I know that Bay Area fans will be rooting for him and wishing him well. People tend to be kinder to their hometown players, like local areas to their 'favorite son' candidates. The season will be interesting. Good thread.
