Default The Party in "The Big Move"

Ok I know everyone. likes to look at this show in a real life perspective..and I love that.

So in 'the big Move" The Evans were having a moving away party because they were moving to Mississippi!!

Now how come Michael and JJ had to break the news to their girlfriends that they were moving AT a moving away party.??

Thought it would be implied....didn't they mingle? wouldn't they know??

oh well.....the viewers are stupid I suppose...although it took me thirty years to come up with this question..I just happened to see the rerun today and the question came up...

^ Good question, like why did the family receive the news about James via TELEGRAM, as opposed to, say, a PHONE CALL??

I see what you mean-lol If they were girls that they really cared about then they would have known way before the party-lol You only tell someone at the party that you were GLAD you were not going to see anymore.

Now that was really STUPID! Even by the '70s, telegrams were on the way out.

The only GT plot that was stupider was how Keith broke his leg.

The question I have is, who the hell sent these telegrams?! At least have James's father show up and announce the death!

of course, this all belies the dumbest move of GT's producers--getting rid of John Amos in the first place!

Let's really analyze that:

"E" true hollywood story insider:

Dr. ThomasE's reason for Keith's broken leg.

"Keith was afraid of success. He had too much going for him at the time. It was really getting to him. The contract, the wedding, the new wife, the new life and having to give up the old. He wanted out. He was too afraid to venture into that new territory of his life. He always had other people to pick up the piece for him: His manager, other football players, the loose women."

"New responsibilities were being thrown his way and he was not prepared for it. He spotted J.J. on his way out the door with his new bride and decided to fake the fall and make it look like J.J. did it. It did not look real to us the viewing audience but it looked real to the wedding party and those in attendance because they were behind Keith and Thelma when it happened."

"Did you notice how it was just Keith and Thelma visiting the doctor's office and we don't even know for sure if Thelma actually went in with her husband when the doctor was testing him. The call from the doctor at the Evan's was most likely Mr. Bookman calling from a payphone downstairs. Bookman, who is also notorious for doing impersenations with his voice. He and Keith took the "I pathetically want to sound like a celebrity" home course with audio tapes. "

"Keith enlisted Bookman's help to convince the family that he could not walk. Keith compensated Bookman with a 6 month supply of sweet potato pie and ice cream. It was also Bookman's idea for Keith to make J.J. look like the one to ruin Keith's career so the burden would be off his shoulders. However, when he started to drink, he could not hide behind J.J. anymore. But when you think about it, a thether ball pole could not hide behind J.J. either."

"When Bookman wanted more pie and ice cream and Keith could not deliver, he threatened to blow Keith's cover. Keith foiled the attempt by making by rigging the operation of the elevator and making it look like Bookman's fault. The icing on the cake was a little 10 year old boy (who was hard of hearing) almost falling down the elevator shaft. Keith, of course stepped in as Mr. hero and "saved him".

"When Keith was ready to come off vacation, he went to his manager and told him that he would gladly accept the invitation to join the Chicago Bears. Did you really think he was out jogging in the last episode? He wanted Thelma and us viewers to think that he was. But he was not out training, he was out unsuccessfully failing his courses at the Chi town clown college institute. "I had to follow my dream" says Anderson. "If it meant having to lie to my wife, blackmailing a buffalo and blaming my fall on a chopstick with teeth, then so be it. I just wanted to be happy." Ex-Classmate Judy Cohen says "he really never was meant to be a clown. He was an intern for the "Bozo Show" and got fired for rigging the "Grand Prize Game". He lost his mind and never got it quite back. That is the reason why he turned to alcohol".

"So Keith decided that it was time to stop hiding behind the clown face and get back on the field. Besides, he got kinda tired of sharing his and his wife's bed with roaches. We attempt to get an interview from former superintendant Nathan Bookman but he declined to a conflict in his schedule. The annual Chicago pie eating contest was approaching his wife insisted that he stay home and practice. "

Next on Dr. ThomasE's findings....

James Evans Senior. Is he really dead or is he alive and well back in Tuckahoe, NY secretly as firefighter Henry Evans? Does this make holy roller Florida Evans a bright orange wearing bigamist? Find out next time!

Of course, if Michael Landon had created and produced this show, instead of Norman Lear, Amos would not have been fired, because unlike Lear, Landon believed in emphasizing quality over quantity, as seen with his work on Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven.

You make a good point, but Michael Landon sure wasn't above killing off mothers and babies (Mary's baby didn't belong to Alice Garvey, but you get the point).
