Smile NOW FEATURING...MY FAIR GILLIGAN

One thing that surprised me a bit was the "reunion" scene at the very end in which everyone was welcoming Gilligan back. I can understand why the Skipper and Maryann would be so ecstatic, but in the earlier scenes, the Professor didn't seem to miss Gilligan and, in fact, liked the idea that Howell had adopted him--same goes for Ginger. Perhaps they were happy because Gilligan got what he wanted and/or they had gotten into the whole scheme they concocted for Gilligan.

Do you think Gilligan looks better dressed as Gilligan or as G. Thirston Howell the fourth?

You see, Lovey CAN sew; she's altering Gilligan's jacket.

Where is Gilligan sleeping in the pajama scene--is that part of the Howell hut, his own hut???

I thought Gilligan did pretty well with the Howell tutoring session.

Do you think it's kind of weird that, at his age, even though adopted by the Howells, Gilligan has to actually "move in" with them, or do you think that made sense? He did have to be instructed in the Howell ways, etc. and they'd want to stick together, apart from the others, but still...

I think that's exactly it: they were happy because he was. Note how he kisses Mary Ann! I think it's the one time in the series where he's the initiator.

He did look quite natty as G. Thurston, especially with the little beret.

I think that's the mysterious other room in the Howell hut behind the beaded curtain. By the way, the midnight talk between Gilligan and the Skipper is one of my favourite scenes in the series. There's such a gentle and yet dramatic quality to it: very different from their usual comic antics.

And his acting during the party was brilliant. For anyone who thinks Gilligan is stupid, take a look at his performance here.

Yet another reason why he wanted to leave. The Howells were having too much fun playing at being parents to see how uncomfortable he was.
