Exclamation NYC News Junkies: Longtime Sports Anchor Fired And Another Reporter Arrested!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03312009...man_162234.htm

Veteran sports anchor Len Berman is out at Ch. 4 as the station continues to cut high-priced talent.

The well-respected Berman, 61 -- who's been with Ch. 4 since 1985 -- reportedly earns over $1 million per year.

He's expected to remain with Ch. 4 through this month. It's unclear who will replace him on the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts -- or even if he will be replaced by a permanent sports anchor.

"I've had a great run here at WNBC and will miss the talented people I've worked with over the years both on and off the air," Berman said in a statement.

"I'm looking forward to the various media projects I'll be involved with."

Berman, 61, is the latest in a long list of Ch. 4 veterans -- including Otis Livingston, Carol Ann Riddell, Jay DeDapper, Kendra Farn, Carolyn Gusoff and Monica Morales -- shown the door recently as the station has slashed its staff to save money.

Exclamation

TV reporter and former detective Mike Sheehan was arrested on charges of driving his car into a police horse and refusing to take a sobriety test, police sources said Tuesday.

Sheehan, 60, who works for WNYW-TV / 5, was driving west on North Moore Street in Manhattan Monday night when he struck the horse, which was walking east, according to the source.

The horse, named Manhattan, and his rider suffered minor leg injuries, and the spooked Manhattan was captured a block from the scene.

Sheehan is charged with causing injury to an animal and refusing to take a breath test. Police sources say he had slurred speech. He was released without bail.

Manhattan also suffered a bruised chest, but he is expected to recover, the sources say.

Sheehan spent 25 years with the New York City Police Department and began working in television in 1993.

Awww...what a shame. I've always gotten a kick out of his "Spanning the World" bits.

Good grief!! At least the horse is going to be OK, from the sound of things.
