I just watched the episode "Hippie Hippie Hooray" from season 4. Toward the end, Sam's cousin Serena plays a ditty called "Iffen" for Darren's boss and his wife who were visiting. It was a cool little 60's ditty and I saw that Elizabeth Montgomery seemed to embrace playing a dual role of both Sam and her troublesome cousin Serena. You could tell from watching this that she had a lot of fun playing Serena. Agree?

Totally, and Serena was such a fun character, I bet Liz Montgomery got a thrill whenever the scripts had a role for Serena. I think they should have released "the Iffin Song" as a single. It would have been a hit. |

I saw a bio where Elizabeth specifically asked for the character of Serena to break up playing "the good girl" all the time.
Apparently she and her husband (Asher) who was the director of the show would even slip off to a motel at lunchtime while she was in costume to have a bit of midday fun (if you know what I mean).

That was indeed a catchy song. Liz looked she was having the time of her life in that episode.

^ Hmmm... Serena gets a black wig, Gloria gets a black wig and it gets Mike excited, Jan gets a black wig and her personality changes for that one episode,
and don't forget the Three's Company episode where Janet gets a blonde wig and her personality changes too. Somehow there's another thread in this.

I enjoyed watching the Serena episodes. I liked her slinky sexy theme.

Yeah I always dug the outfits Serena wore, and the hip slang she always talked in.

I read basically the same thing...
Montgomery was growing bored with the show (which was evident by season 6), and wanted to do something 'challenging'. This was a caharcter that she and her husband came up with, and she enjoyed playing her. |

You do realise Serena debuted in the SECOND season? If Montgomery was bored at that point all I can say is that she must have been a very restless person with a zilch attention span.

Yeah, Serena first showed up in "And Then There Were Three" in Season 2 (when Tabitha was born), but didn't appear again until "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble" (aka the pie fight episode) in Season 4. Serena did bring quite a bit of spice to the proceedings - Liz did seem to enjoy bringing her naughty side to the forefront.

Samantha-Good girl
Serena-Wild child Only Liz Montgomery would have the charm, acting ability, looks and sex appeal to be appealing and attractive as both characters
