Should organ donation be mandatory? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I do think donating a deceased loved one's organs is a wonderful gift; however, I still feel that the choice to donate one's organs upon their death should be the individual's decision, not the government's. Some people may have religious objections or some other reason against wanting to donate and their final wishes should be respected.

I think it should be up to the person. It's a great thing to do but I don't think anyone should be forced to do it.

No way but if the government ever does make it mandatory then they should foot the bill for all those that receive transplants.

I agree with Sharop that it should be up to the person and it is a good thing, but to have the government mandate it is to me Orwellian, kind of a creepy thought. What else would they then make mandatory? Makes you wonder.

It does seem kind of creepy now that you bring it up. I just feel that in any case, it should be someone's personal choice. I think I look at the issue in a, "they're our bodies, we should decide what we do with them" - even when we're dead - way.

Yeah, I was thinking about it from the government control angle right away, and I see your point exactly as well.

This should be up to the person, and not the government. Something like this is a personal decision and not a political one.

No. The government shouldn't make this mandatory.

Besides, you don't want someone who needs a liver to get a liver from a guy or gal who dies of drinking too much alcohol.
