I think it was when Ann married (that guy from WKRP) I can't remember his name.

To me, it didn't actually jump, but sure hopped a lot when MacKenzie Phillips was into her major drug problems and they had to make it like she had run away. It just seemed to trump any other story line they would try. You knew the real reason and knew the writers were having a rough time continuing the story with just Ann and Barbara. They did pull it off, but by the time MacKenzie came back a lot had changed.
